How much value does a car like that lose if it doesnt have the original fender tag?

BADSIXPACK 01-13-2018 08:26 PM

If the car had no other evidence to back up what's on a repro tag, then the value drops big time - like 30 or 40%. If they have original paperwork, photos, and ownership chain that fully corroborates a repro tag, I would say 10%.

I've seen too many Mopars over the years that have new repro fender tags and mysteriously every possible option. I can just about hear the late Andy Rooney's voice in my head saying: "Ya ever wonder why it's always the mega option cars that have the repro tags? Hmmmmm, it just makes you think"

Keep in mind that those tags were only held on by two small screws and people tended to remove them for some crazy reason over the years. Whether to protect the tag from being swiped at a carshow, or to just keep it for safe keeping somewhere (and subsequently they forgot where they put it), that's usually how they got lost.

And sadly I can’t remember how many times I’ve heard of body shops losing the tags while the cars were in for restoration.

My understanding is it has a tremendous amount of paperwork. warranty card, window sticker build sheet. Dave Wise did inspect and did a report. The hood was install at dealership and has records. I've never seen but when it was found 10 plus years ago i remeber hearing it had killer docs.

Just an fyi....

If the tag was made from the original broadcast sheet, then value is affected only minimally, as Steve said, probably 10%

For such a valuable car - why did they put non factory stripes on it? According to the Tag it should have no Sport Stripes (V6X).
