If the car had no other evidence to back up what's on a repro tag, then the value drops big time - like 30 or 40%. If they have original paperwork, photos, and ownership chain that fully corroborates a repro tag, I would say 10%.
I've seen too many Mopars over the years that have new repro fender tags and mysteriously every possible option. I can just about hear the late Andy Rooney's voice in my head saying: "Ya ever wonder why it's always the mega option cars that have the repro tags? Hmmmmm, it just makes you think"
Keep in mind that those tags were only held on by two small screws and people tended to remove them for some crazy reason over the years. Whether to protect the tag from being swiped at a carshow, or to just keep it for safe keeping somewhere (and subsequently they forgot where they put it), that's usually how they got lost.
And sadly I can’t remember how many times I’ve heard of body shops losing the tags while the cars were in for restoration.
