I do not believe that is 69 comfortweave

McCune 12-24-2018 11:20 PM

I've noticed a few threads being posted about reproduction versions of the 1969 Comfortweave and Houndstooth material being used in today's upholstery reproductions. The original Comfortweave we all know was just as it states in the name, woven. Unfortunately none of today's vinyl manufacturing companies are reproducing the Comfortweave as it was originally made by Chevy.

This was taken from another forum ^^

The pressed material does not feel or look anywhere close...
We are having SMS make covers for the 1973 RS LT Z28... light neutral comfortweave - $1300 for front and rear seat covers made from NOS comfortweave (received samples and have approved already) You have to send one complete front cover, and the upper and lower rear covers as patterns.

SMS ,told me they would not make my covers. I am happy they are willing to do yours.

So what is the process for ordering the comfortweave vinyl? I see what I think is black comfrotweave: "1969 Chevrolet Vinyl 69-9016", but that is just a sample. Once you are ready to order, I assume you need to call them, right? Since Comfortweave is a directional product, how is the correct yardage and direction ordered? Just looking for tips from those who ordered from SMS. thanks

That's an impressive material. Chevy must have charged a premium for that option.
Just curious how long SMS quoted you on the turnaround.
They've been known to take as much as 2 years to finish an order.

This is NOS material and SMS recently bought out and integrated a couple of other vendors material inventories so I have no idea what colors they have or what quantities they have however I am picking up a few different colors for complete cars while it is available. Bright blue (I want to do a 69 or 70 vette with Bright Blue comfortweave and Red Comfortweave for a Camaro along with black for a Camaro & my vette.)

I got samples of the comfortweave to approve first, (real and woven) now they are sending samples of the vinyl and the beading/welting for approval before I agree to let them do the seats.

That's a good question as I am not waiting 2 years...
I have someone who can sew covers VERY WELL so I can get it done.

The actual fabric is 54" wide and is $170 per running yard. SMS says 3 yards. We are buying an additional 3 yards to keep with the car in-case something happens.
