Guys, this is Donny from AAW. I would be interested in an original cable part number. We have all the original info from Packard Electric including the blueprints. We make the cables from those prints, and they are spot on. Now, with that said, we have run into a few instances where there were running changes, and that could be the issue here, not sure. What I could use is the part number off of an original cable that mounts the way you are all suggesting. I will say that in my 26 years of working here, the issue 99% of the time is that the battery is installed incorrectly (posts reversed), or the car has the incorrect battery in it. The repro batteries are not always correct. Send me an email to [email protected] and I'll be happy to do some research and hopefully, put this to rest once and for all.

Here's what is on my '69 Malibu. It is a 350/300 car with h.d. battery and alternator, so I'm guessing this isn't the normal for 69 small block Malibu.

Part numbers are: positive - 6296702MP, negative - 6296750YF. The negative wire is approximately 34&quot; long and attaches to the rear alternator bracket/thermostat housing mount.

Hi Donny, This is Mike, Richs cousin. OPGI, sent the neg. cable stamped #6296745 YF. Cable that came off is marked 6296750 YF. They told me that's all they have for the SB application and insisted its the correct cable. 6296745 is 26&quot;.

My buddy just checked another survivor car of his and it has a negative cable with a length of 26&quot; and a part number of 6296745YF. The positive cable on the same car is: 6289199ML. He said this was a heavy duty set up and that it required the battery to have the positive terminal near the fender. That is new to me.

Mike I think they gave you the shorter cable. There must have been several different combinations for 69.

I'll do a little more digging on this one.

Yep....it`s one of those that no one had the correct answer.....very frustrating.
