Re: Coming Home
Only 1000 jobs?
Here: http://www.nytimes.com/1987/08/27/us...ohio-town.html There were 4400 jobs lost at Norwood alone. In the run up to the transfer of the F car to Canada in 1992 the combined labor of both Norwood and Van Nuys and a direct US job loss of over 8000 U.S. jobs. and X 3 that number in support jobs. You guys had the cars for 30 years and now the "Projet Renaissance" loans that closed the American plants 30 years ago are now within the repayment period. http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/r...10/page-1.html Guys straight up - shoe is on the other foot now. We will lose 1,000 good paying jobs at the GM plant in Oshawa along with ALL the other spin off jobs that are a result of these positions. We also lost 1,000 good paying jobs at the same plant in 2008 when the pick up truck production was closed. The question remains, what are the long term plans for this plant? Oshawa Ontario has been hit hard.....real hard. Paul </div></div> Paul. I'm a member of the HBA (Home Builders Association) here in my town, which is part of the CANADIAN HBA, We had a rep from the Canadian body in back in November of 2014 I believe. The harsh reality is that "somehow" there is a mindset from the CAW that ALL car manufacturing in Ontario at least, within the next 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oshawa is losing the F body, Toyota Cami plant has lost the Corolla for 2016. This is just a start. Labor and other costs are what's killing these her in Canada. Sucks, but the writings on the wall. These "elected" officials that are screwing us at every turn will end up killing manufacturing in this country in my lifetime, as I'm 49 now. |
Re: Coming Home
Didn't GM move a major engine factory from Mexico to Canada a few years ago creating jobs in Canada.

Re: Coming Home
I agree, job loss's suck, U.S. or Canada. I just meant that in the past every time the Camaro/Firebird line leaves a plant it is either idled(Oshawa) or torn down completely(Norwood & Quebec) From what I understand, no other car line in G.M.'s history has had this distinction.
