Re: 67 427 Chevelle?

Back in the '80s I saw a few '67 Chevelles with SS427 emblems that looked pretty original, and those were from around the North/South Carolina area. Maybe there was a dealer down that way who was doing the conversions, not sure, but these cars looked the "factory" part pretty well. Just what I saw.

OK so I run into this guy again today. He's telling me how he ordered his 75 Camaro Z-28 with an LT-1 motor. I could be wrong on this one but were LT-1's still available in 75?

I think there was a Type LT Camaro in 1975 that was kinda like a Z28.

If by LT1 you mean big valve heads, forged pistons and crank, 4 bolt mains, solid lifter cam, aluminum intake and Holley carb, I am pretty sure that was only 70-72. And the 71-72 were lower compression. 73 started the L-82.

I believe the LT option ran from 73 through 78(?). It was sort of like a Mustang Grande, nicer interior, etc. I think in 73 and 74 you could combine it with the Z28 option. I had a 74 LT years ago. Pretty car, it was silver with white interior. It had a 396 swapped in it at some point along with Cragars and Motion style side pipes, but I don't think it was anything special to start with, just a low-horse 350.

Z28 option ended in 74 and did not come back until 77. Type LT and the LM-1 engine was the highest HP for that year. 155hp

No he said he bought a 75 Z-28 LT-1 motor with 4 speed. Cost 5K, he also said he had the dealer put white stripes on it like the earlier Camaros. When he went to pick it up it didn't have the stripes and was upset. A blue 6 cylinder Camaro that was being picked up by a girl had his stripes on it instead by mistake.

I initially thought he would know what he was talking about but now realize that the guy is a real pain to listen to because so far all his car stories are inaccurate.

Yeah, I think I would be avoiding Mr. Know-It-All whenever possible.

And yes, the Type LT Camaro began in 73 and was a more luxurious model than the standard Camaro.
