Re: Trim Tag Special Paint Decode
Looks like your El Camino SS 454 was ordered by a California Owner as it has the mandatory NA9 Evap System on your build sheet.

Re: Trim Tag Special Paint Decode
It has always been in California.

Mulsanne is Metallic...
It was most likely sprayed by hand which is probably why it got heavy heavy coverage, they used a pressure pot for special order colors and whomever was spraying may have just been spraying material out. |
Re: Trim Tag Special Paint Decode
Is the 1001 PA marking on the build sheet the special order paint code seen on the window sticker?
|
Re: Trim Tag Special Paint Decode
I don't have the window sticker but your question caused me to look at a few other build sheets I have. One of them is a copy of a friend's 70 SS396 that was a Van Nuys car like this El Camino. On his build sheet there are no markings like those that you pointed out on mine.
Does anyone else have a Van Nuys build sheet for a 70 Chevelle or El Camino with those special notes just below the first row of options? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-p1020451.jpg |
Re: Trim Tag Special Paint Decode
Ran across this. Apparently the 1001PA is a code for paint delete.

Re: Trim Tag Special Paint Decode
1001PA is not a code for paint delete.
It's for charging for special paint. Clearly your car got paint - it's right there on the buildsheet. |
Re: Trim Tag Special Paint Decode
I found an internal Chevrolet zone letter stating special paint costs while cleaning out a salesmans file cabinet.
<span style="font-style: italic">Class "A"-a single color price of FREE ordering many multiple vehicles through Fleet/Political sub divisions. Two tones were $27. Class "B"-a single color price of $32 if ordering 3 or more vehicles at one time through local Fleet. Two tones were $42. Class "C"-a single color price of $95 for purchases not coming under the heading of any of the above. Two tones were $122.</span> I have a few buildsheets showing the "PA" code as well and asked Jim Mattison awhile ago what these paint pricing codes meant & his response was: <span style="font-style: italic">All paint codes with "AA" were no charge items. The other special paints that you have listed used colors that were either available on other models,or used for other years. The pricing would also be dictated by the number of units that were ordered in these colors. It has been a long time Rick since I've needed to recall these pricing codes, however,I specifically remember that 1001HA was a $75 charge and that 1001PA was a $25 charge.</span> |

My original post was to try and determine what color 926-BM865 was. Sounds like that answer might be lost to history. I can color match the inside of the doors but a definitive answer would have been preferable. Thanks guys! |
