Re: clutches

I had a LUK clutch in my LS-7 Big Block Crate Motor 1967 Chevelle (Member's rides April 2004?) and it stayed together quite fine. It was about 550 / 600 Horse Power with the Roller Cam & Aluminum heads. And I was not very nice to it at all! I was always surprised the M-21 stayed together after all those burn outs. The clutch never failed.

Sammy....I'm running a Hays Street Strip clutch. It works great for what I'm doing but a little heavy on the foot. I wouldn't recommend it if you want a lighter clutch. I've heard quite a few complaints about Centerforce chattering but I don't know personally.

Good luck, Kurt

It was great talking to you this morning Sam....as always. Between you and Benny, I always seem to learn something when I get done with a conversation with either of you.

Let us know how the new set up works.

Ram Powergrip HD here. I've heard good things for many, many years about Ram clutches and put one in the Biscayne.

That Ram clutch got a workout at SCR, it even shook the sand out of that frame

I have a center force dual friction behind the 600 HP hemi in my GTX. Pushes easy. Its is like its on or off and takes some getting used to but works good. Got one for the z but not driven it

Bought a Hays street set-up. The kit had a bad pressure plate and needed to be returned. Because my car was on the trans shop's lift, I had to do something fast and bought a LUK set up which seem to be readly available. No more Speed Shops around where you have a choice and can just go buy this stuff anymore. I heard good things from some members here about LUK and also from Mike Cody who owns the trans repair shop. So far it seems real smooth with no chatter or vibrations. Pedal pressure is good too. Don't run slicks or do any real drag racing with it so it should be fine.

Hi Sammy, I bought a Ram muscle car series clutch for my Z, and it had a defective pressure plate as well. It took many calls and months to get RAM to replace it (the found root cause was a missed machining operation)but finally they sent a replacement. I went with a LUK clutch and it works fine in my Z with over 400hp. Very inexpensive but operates fine with 6500 rpm shifts.
