This is exactly right. There is nothing wrong with the partial VIN on the pad. The leading 1 is for Chevrolet.

Great car, great price.

Kim can hold her own just fine in regards to 428 CJ and Boss Mustangs. I will bet she can answer any questions on the LT-1 and if not will get what you need.

Give her a call 541-451-3713 evenings before 10pm.

I missed this post, just to clarify, the 5th digit in 1972 is an L for the LT1. K is the base engine and W is the LS5. The 5th digit for 1972 in any GM line delineates the engine. The Z (second alphanumeric) in this car's VIN means Corvette line.

Being it has "No Paper" am I missing something? I don't see the complete VIN # being shown to prove it left the St Louis factory as an LT-1 (Z) car?

Kerry was kind enough to post my Corvette here for me--he's a nice guy and a good resource for us over on the Mustang Boards!

Please feel free to contact me directly with questions or picture requests, etc.

Thanks for the space...I appreciate the complementary comments on my car!

Bill

The Z in the second position means it is a Corvette and does not have anything to do with the engine option. It is the 5th digit in any 1972 GM VIN that delineates the engine. This was new across the board for 1972. Wouldn't it have been nice in 1970 to sort out LS6 Chevelle authenticity? At any rate, in this case the L means, unequivocally, it is an LT1 car. Please refer to my previous post #503226 on this. The VIN was provided in an early post. This information is generally available in service manuals from that period or if this helps clear the confusion, here is the documentation from GM on 1972 VIN's:

Sorry, got my "Z" and "L" mixed up.
