Re: 69 Camaro

Welcome here Robert, WoW what a find!!!
Amazing there was a Road Test article w/ it, love the Test Car banner seen on the in the tank/trunk shot!
Is the tank and filler the originals, remounted slightly higher over the years?
What's the status of the rear, the rear rims look like old Ford pattern?
Couldn't help notice the Fred Gledhill '67 Crew cab ramp truck in the one shot, same rig seen in this previous thread here...

Could this be the first ever 1969 Pro-Touring Camaro?

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Jon Mello gets 100% credit for locating the car in Mexico city.

THANKS again to TimG and SW for their help when it showed up in Austin on its way back to California several decades after leaving.

I believe the fuel cell is the original but YES it has been moved forward and the filler neck upgraded. The mounting holes for the original filler brackets were one of the identifying marks to help ID the car. The original fuel filler door is one of the final significant pieces I have yet to locate.

Re: 69 Camaro

The rear is certainly the original to the car. It's correctly dated and has the 4:56 code. Mr. Guldstrand was known for fabricating his own rear disc and suspension pieces.
Here is a link to yet another CRG discussion about shocks that shows the rear of this car and it's SIX shocks(reply #8-12); http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=7795.0

As for the rear wheels the bolt pattern is still 5 on 4 3/4. I still remember rolling it off the truck and watching the rear wheels wobble all over the place. The previous owner had trouble getting rims that would clear the big brakes and the spacers that were there. Thus there were all sorts of spacers and washers to make something fit.

The Gledhill truck may indicate the car originally came from there but I have no evidence of that yet. I do however own several of the license plate frames. The car seems to have been ordered as a Z28 with endura bumper, spoilers, cowl hood, 4:56 gears and no radio.

Robert

Welcome, your car and story are awesome. And I guess being one of Charley's &quot;Idiot&quot; friends ain't so bad... .
What I haven't figured out is what the pecking order is between &quot;Dummy&quot; and &quot;Idiot&quot; friend.
Great stuff, I have been watching at the CRG too.

The history of this car is obviously the trump card but a <span style="text-decoration: underline">'69 model year only</span> Camaro built/shipped w/ the factory 4:56 rear axle (or 4.88) is a factory Copo 9511 car!
If original tube what stamping is it, BW?
