Was Don always #11 or other #'s too also was the #11 car he ran the subject car? ~ Pete |

btw... are we gonna see this ol girl at Watkins in Sept for the Historics? Sure would be great to see it. </div></div> unfortunately no, my last race was Sept 2006 at Road America and while "the Glen" in Sept was on my list of tracks to go to I have no plans to ever race it again. the powers that be took all the fun out of it for me and left me with a bad taste in my mouth, the car has been out of the trailer once since 06 but only to drain the fluids and remove the shaft rockers. sad because the thing is an absolute rocket. http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...30308720-L.jpg |

Bud Lives in Reno. |
Re: Yenko Chevrolet records question
I think one of the O/C cars belongs to John Thompson in California & another to Harry Yeagy in Cincy.

Re: Yenko Chevrolet records question
In the spring of 1954 I went to Chevrolet's "Post Graduate School of Modern Merchandising" in Detroit and met Don Yenko, also attending the school. It was also in slang called "The Dealer's Son School",which, in fact, it really was.He had two tickets for the Indy 500 and we decided to fly there for the race in his Piper PA 14.I suggested we stop by the sports car race at Atterbury AF Base on the way.He agreed it was more interesting than Indy.He attended a couple of races I was in that year, and he was hooked. The rest is history. My dealership,The W.R.Austin Chevrolet Co. in Norwalk,Ct sold a few of his various conversions, along with some of John Fitch's Corvair conversions.
I do not intend to mock the Chevrolet "Post Graduate School of Modern Merchandising". It was the best six weeks of learning I ever spent. |
Re: Yenko Chevrolet records question
Welcome aboard Mr. Austin. Interesting information. It sounds like you may have unearthed a racing bug in the young Yenko!

Re: Yenko Chevrolet records question
WoW and welcome here!
Being a Yenko network dealer, W.R. Austin delivered cars are part of the discussions here every so often. Thanks for sharing your story, please tell us more! Gotta ask, has any W.R. Austin paperwork from the glory years survived? ~ Pete |

Re: Yenko Chevrolet records question
I am new to the list but not new to enjoying and being involved with Yenko legend and old Corvettes and Corvette race cars. I have a few old photos of the OC cars as well as of Yenko racing what I believe is a 57 Corvette somewhere in the midwest.
I am also interested in Yenko delivery history, i.e., did he sell and prepare cars for customers to race? What if a customer bought a car and then ask the Yenko group to race prepare it, would the Yenko garage do that? |
