Rich, Did you consider any of the other Amsoil oils before switching? The Amsoil ZROD oil is designed for our solid lifter engines and is formulated with Zinc plus rust and corrosion inhibitors because of long term storage that some of our cars see. It's available in 10W30 and 20W50. Here's a link to it if anyone wants to read up on it.

10W30 ZROD

20W50 ZROD

I've been using and selling Amsoil for a few years now and will gladly help anyone interested in ordering.

Re: JOE GIBBS 15W 50 SYNTHETIC HIGH ZINC HOT ROD OIL

Tommy, I did consider the Amsoil due to the fact that this is mainly what I run in my Harley engines and daily drivers as well as what is currently in my solid lifter motor... My 350 horse 396 I run Valvoline conventional VR1 20/50 with a quart of Lucas oil additive and have really had excellent results with that combo...

The engine shop I bought the Joe Gibbs oil at is an Amsoil dealer but they did not have any of this new oil in stock so the engine builder kind of persuaded me into trying the Joe Gibbs oil.. Of course he said he would order the Amsoil for me if I really wanted it..

He swore by Amsoil but also told me that the Gibbs oil is very good also.. He said he has broken down race engines that used the Gibbs oil for a season and has not seen any problems or wearing in the motors... So I figured I would try the Gibbs oil out.. I am willing to bet it parallels the Amsoil.. It also has corrosion inhibitors in it...

I read somewhere that there was very little difference between the true 100% synthetic oils as far as protection qualities are concerned and that all the major name brands were very good... Probably comes down to a matter of personal allegiance and choice I guess...

Rich

In case you do not know about this website, look around on Bob Is The Oil Guy and you can read 1000X more info than you ever wanted to know!

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...s.php?ubb=cfrm

Here's just one thing I quickly found on there about the Joe Gibbs Oil:

Q: Has anyone been using this oil in thier race cars? Thier website says to change the filter every 100 laps or so instead of a complete oil change. I like the idea since this oil is very expensive.

A:Joe has a REALLY low TBN; it would be a better idea to swap the oil and keep the filter after 100 laps.
A: Yes it does, I had a VOA done on XP3 and the TBN was 2.6.

So after reading all this I went to the Brad Penn site and am curious which "blend" you guys are using?
I think it's the Brad Penn Grade 1 10W-40 partial synthetic?
