Hey Rob-

I was looking at a couple of those apps myself and wondered how it worked - I know the newer vehicles have a Bluetooth connection built in - is that how it connects? What about older cars without the built in Bluetooth?

Talk about handy.

No, the obd unit itself is bluetooth capable.

Got it. Makes sense now.

I thought for some reason that having a Bluetooth connection meant you did not need anything to plug into the underdash connector.

Thanks.

When they are saying that a car is Bluetooth ready they mean that you can connect you mobile phone to the cars audio system so your phonecall is routed to the speakers of your car. There is also a mike that you can speak back through. This makes your cars stereo a big handsfree system.

There are headunits that does that too. I have a Pioneer in my '69 Camaro giving me handsfree over Bluetooth.

I think what Rob means is that unit can show the data on his phone screen without having to use a cable. That unit just plugs into the OBD11 port and transmits info to his phone via bluetooth.
