Good luck at reading the vin down by the oil filter.Most of them you can't, your lucky if you can read a few numbers at best.

early cars had the VIN on the pad I believe. Would that be a Muncie 4 speed originally?

The 327 would have had a Saginaw. That leads me to a question. Do the Saginaw equipped 69's have a Hurst shifter like the Muncie? |

Yes it will. On the passenger side of the transmission.
