The numbers de-code as follows

The 3946052, block casting number designates the block as a ZL-1 aluminum 427

The T0507ME Engine Date Code
T= Tonawanda Plant
05= May
07=7th day
ME= 427/430hp, M22 Trans, ZL-1 Perf Package

The 3 4 69 casting date code
3=March
4=4th Day
69=1969
195=???

All these numbers help determine what the engine really is, the car the engine was originally planed to be use in and the dates it was made. That’s very important to a lot of people. People want to make sure they are getting what the seller says they are getting and the dates, cast numbers etc help verify that.

Other than the pistons are the internals all stock?

I fully understand that . I deal with numbers matching cars all the time. I was just wondering if the numbers on the back that match the caps are just for that reason so that one would know that the caps belong with that block.. I never knew about that one for a BBC..or is it just for the ZL1

If that is the fact.. They are the original caps

The crank is a steel crank but that's about all that I would say was stock. Remember..I bought this motor long time back from a road racer and everything is hi perf. 30 over Venolia 12.3:1 .pistons.. Corrilla Rods, roller cam, rockers, crome molly pushrods..Harlem Sharp.rockers.."yuck" high perf in pan oil sump, Holley intake with a 850 an so on. The only work done to the block is a catch screen was added in the oil valley..

yes, from what I understand, that is correct. Only on the ZL-1's did they have these numbers. Because of the difference in the alum. block and the steel caps, the parts could not be machined together as the all steel blocks.

My inquiry is more to document the sequence of the motors as they were being assembled. They are not in an exact numerical order, but there may be some reason to the order of the motors as they were assembled. Thanks for the pics.
