EZ Nova 09-19-2025 12:21 PM

Umm these times don't seem right for a 427 in a Nova. I have documentation of a friends 1969 L78 Nova, 4sp and 4.88s I believe, ran 11.70s back then with tuned carb, distributor recurve open headers and slicks.

why do you think it was called Protest II? With the times he was running I bet he got protested/torn down a lot.

Plus as a speed shop owner you would expect him to be quicker than the average Joe.

Guys, I'm thinking it would have been a bit faster.

A quick try landed lots of Old Newspaper Ads and Articles w/ Dick Ross through the years.
Looks like he was indeed faster also a major force in Michigan Drag Racing history.
Note 09/74 Ad w/ AHRA Record holders for sale, is this the High Time/Protest 2 ‘69 Nova?:hmmm:
:beers:

McBride Dragway ==> Stanton ==> "Mid Michigan Motorplex".

Dad raced there when it was a grass runway. You would start on the pavement and then run off into the grass.

On occasion you would have to halt the action to let an airplane land.

Joe Taubits!

I don't remember Joe racing; he was a noted Buick enthusiast and collector.

For many years he was the guy that maintained the one remaining Buick "Bug" racer, now in Flint's Sloan Museum.

When my Uncle Jim retired from Chevrolet Flint Manufacturing/Pressed Metal Div ("Chevy in the Hole") Joe picked him up in a Buick Limo and drove him out the gate.
