Re: Battery

The R89 series didn't come out till later, installed in a few late 1970 assemblies, then became the std. for 1971 & on production.
Depending on it's assembly date, your car coulda came with an R79 originally as std. equipment,as the R79 series was the standard assembly line battery replacing the R59 top post battery for the following Camaros:
*1969 Camaro w/327-350-396-427cid engines built in late April early May 1969 at both Norwood & Van Nuys assembly plants to the end of overlapping model production.
*1970 Camaro w/350-402cid engines from beginning to near end of model production.

The reproduction battery of this today is in all actuality, the 1971 released R89,which has slightly larger case dimensions and an "R79 Recommended Replacement" decal placed over it’s top cover,as well as "R89" molded into the side cases. The R89 series also uses both 3/8" cable terminals,as compared to the R79's 5/16" & 3/8" terminals.
The R89 series saw a much broader & longer period of vehicle useage well into the late 1970’s,so it is the more popular preferred battery to reproduce today, compared to the R79.
The R79 series battery has never been reproduced due to it’s limited vehicle applications and brief time period of barely 14 months.GM will not issue the license for it,nor will any manufacturerer pay for it based on these very same reasons.

I just weighed my full wet R59 electrolyte battery here, and it came in at 44lbs.
The sealed gel SR59 came in at 54lbs.
