Dennis, I didn't sense any disrespect from you at all. My apologies if it came across that way. I was just quoting you to make a point. Man oh man, it is a never ending job trying to discover all the running changes and really pin them down. I wish I would not have been born such an anal retentive. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Original AC A212CW Air Filter

I think Mark's correct in his original description about this.
True, they did use cross mesh as well as diamond mesh filters on several assembly lines during the same time peroid, but those that started <u>"Best Way To</u> Protect Your Engine-Replace With AC Type A212CW" were what AC was producing during the late 1960's into early 1970's.
Sometime during 1974,they dropped the words <u>"Best Way To"</u>,and adopted the shortened version that Marks shows.
I talk among other parts hounds about these when they come up for sale, and we reference them Best Way or NOT Best Way filters.
I consider Charleys filter the original assembly line installed filter, and Marks correct for a 1974 or later assembly.
That yellowing is the original capture oil they saturated these with back then.
Very fairly priced considering what it is.

Re: Original AC A212CW Air Filter

I am going to start a thread on these filters in the technical discussion forum. Maybe together, we can all learn a little more about them.

Regards,

Mark

Mark...it was not my intention to enter into a pissing match with you, I was just wondering where you came up with your info on this filter. I'm sure that you are a very nice guy too but the fact remains that Charley's 1100 mile un touched 1970 Z28 survivor car has this very filter element in it, and thus is contradictory to your statement of not being correct for pre 1974 vehicles..at any rate I wish I would have read this thread sooner, I would have bought it! Great item man!!!

Thanks Rick again for your input! Mark, I now see the difference...Charley's is a "Best way" and the one you sold is not. I would have never noticed that minor detail unless Rick pointed it out! At least the mystery for me is clear now. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Original AC A212CW Air Filter

Good point Bill. Without the anal retentive type (admittedly, I suffer this syndrome as well https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif), how would we garner all the information this site has to offer.

Mark, NEVER (OK, so I shouldn't use that word https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif) give up the anal characteristic. Your passengers ride more comfortably knowing you're there, and it carries over into our hobby. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Speaking of that, Jeff Skiles has been my First Officer on several occasions at US Airways. He is a great guy and a great pilot. He and Sully did a pretty job last month, didn't they?
