Where did your 302 peak out, close to 8,000? How much tq did you get out of it? Got a dyno sheet for it? A friend of mine is considering building a 302 for his 3rd Gen IROC Z and wanted to see the curves on a well built 302. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Funny story. I received a phone call this past summer. A guy called me looking for a 67 Z28 and wanted to know if I knew of any for sale. One thing led to another. Next thing he tells me that his late brother was invloved with racing. Did I know John Lingenfelter? I almost fell out of my chair! This was his younger brother, Charlie. I told him that his older brother was one of the "icons" of racing and that I thought JL was one of the most respected people in motorsports. What a small world.

Charlie owns or rents a suite at the new Charlotte race track and invited me there when ever I get to race at that facility. I plan on going there this coming spring as NHRA now has a national event there.

In my business, you never know who is going to call you.

Will post 302 dyno sheet data when I get home. I am out of town now on a Camaro inspection trip. I do remember that the 302 in my 67 Z28 did pull strong numbers up to 8000 or 8200rpm. Torque was in the low 300 range but I'll get the data for you. One thing that I have learned over the past 10-15 years is changing the lobe center on these engines makes a big difference in hp. Remember, in Stock Eliminator we have a glass ceiling and that's why you tweek everything that you can. After many years of research, it pays off. That is why we have built a big following for engine rebuilding and restoration. All of our customer base who we have done engines for have a big smile on their face!

I'll also post the dyno sheet on another 396-375 hp L78 engine that I just finished last week. All stock including a 3863143 camshaft with my little tricks paid off on this one too. Made 446 peak hp at like 6100 rpm. More than many get out of an L72 engine. And this was done on Bub's dyno which is on the conservative side.

Jerry: on these dyno pulls, what exhaust are you running? Headers or manifolds??

Headers with mufflers.

I was considering a 302 build for my 67 Camaro, because I love high winding small blocks, but I decided on a 406 because I like torque an the ability to fry the tires from a roll too. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif My motor ended up making 505 hp and 506 ft lbs @ 5200/5300 respectively with a hydrualic flat tappet and a set of 195 AFRs.

Here is sheet on the bone stock L78 that we did last week. First column is the torque and second is HP. I will dig for my 302 dyno sheets this evening after I get Camaro reports written.

Found the sheets on the 302 that's in my car now. Pulled engine to 8100rpm. Note that this engine pulled exceptional HP up to 8000rpm with no signs of giving up. The torque is better than I remembered too. Stock "O" rocker arms, stock head castings and camshaft that is slightly less than .485" lift.......and 11:to 1 pistons. I should also note that the new car was on the rev limiter going through the traps at Maple Grove last month........8600rpm at 124.06 mph. Enjoy.

This is why we build so many stock restoration engines for customers now. Our work in the world of Stock Eliminator has paid off in more ways that one.
