I think Tom is right on the money. I don't look at it as trying to place blame, I look at it as just relaying the facts of an investigation. Certainly .02 would not affect judgement in any way, but if NHRA rules say NO alcohol, there may be an issue.

How many times have we heard John Force refer to "having a few Budwiesers" after a big win? I wouldn't think his only beers come on Sunday night after the event.

blame game...

NASCAR did the same re-direction at Simpson Safety when DE, himself, left his belts loose...

I am good friends with a Top Fuel driver. I have attended many events with a motorhome on site. Friday night after qualifing is party time. Saturday night is usually mild but I have seen many drivers having a good time. I would think in Scott's case it was from a few the night before.

One day one of our workers working at the aircraft plant
drove home after his shift.ON the way home he was stopped by the cops as he was driving a little eratic. He blew over
and they arrested him.He was not drinking during his shift however he had been working with a chemical KETONE in a confined space. Turns out he was not drinking it was the breathing in of chemical fumes.
He later developed a liver problem and was paid workers compensation.
