Re: 1971 Buick Convertible

In this case, the Julian date indicates a 1970 build for the 1971 model year. For those of you who don't know, there was a strike at GM just before the car was built; they were out of BB TH400s but had some OW ones available when production restarted, thus what's usually an Olds transmission in a Buick.

I'll let Stefano comment on the car when he's ready, but it's not a small block (or at least wasn't originally if the VIN on the trans matches). https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Yep you're right.I was incorrect in my previous reply.
It should say Friday,August 21st 1970,not 1971.

not unusual for a 71 Stage 1 car to have an OW tranny

I think the 1516 is the last 4 digits of the VIN #

in any case, the back 6 or 8 digits of the VIN would be stamped on the pan rail boss anyways

Re: 1971 Buick Convertible

The car is one of the 81, 1971 Stage One Convertibles produced. It is documented back to the original owner in Colorado. It also has an original POP. It has had 4 owners before me and has traveled just under 100,000 miles.

That sheet I found in the back panel threw me off, but I have found out that many of those sheets did not end up in the cars which they were intended for. That particular sheet is not for this car as it is missing a few options that would have been on it, as well as it shows the TH350.

I have some pics of the third owner when he bought the car in the 1980s at a Dealership called Dreiling Buick, in Lakewood Colorado. I was told that it belonged to the dealer Principal.

The trans tags did not match the cars Vin on Olds or Buick.

The Vin is on the trans and as well as the front of the engine.

This '71 455 engine has a "RS" Code, which is 1969 Stage 1. It Should be "TS" and I was wondering if anyone had seen this mistake before. The code on the POP is correct.
