interesting that it shows this car had 3:55 gears when the ra4 came with 3:90 standard and 4:33 as optional. its possible that this being a test car had that and would explain why it had no power below 3000 rpm and was hard to drive on take offs.

Trivia - I asked Jim Wangers if the red GTO from the Car and Driver test was used in any other magazine tests. He said Car and Driver was the only time either the red or blue GTO's were magazine tested. I pointed out that the blue car appeared in another article or two - and he explained they did several press photos - exterior portraits and "action" shots (Jim mentioned having done some driving, too) - for use by the print media, some even used the same shots, and suggested I go back and have a look so I did ...
