Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Thanks guys,
Ryan Plan to chat with several Oldsmobile guys at PSMCDR this weekend to get resto parts etc lined up. |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Good luck with your Cutlass.
Not to be a jerk, but I viewed that GS resto website and just one question: All that work to make it look good, and yet the front crossmember is all scratched up and has surface rust? That just seems strange to me with all of the effort put in the rest of the car. |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I received powder coat samples today.
These are to be the three 60 degree gloss black samples, I can't see a difference? What have you guys used? Got a quote to powder coat all the frame and suspension pieces, I think it will be worth the investment.......as far as I have read it is a one time deal. Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
You will need a paint light to see the differance. Now, you're going to ask what is that
BRING THOSE SAMPLES to MCACN.....I will make it clear for you. Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
They are going in the glove box
Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I sent Muscle Car Review a thank you letter and they sent me 6 copies of the September edition:-)
How nice is that? They must be car people!! Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-img_2288.jpg |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
That was cool.. One question about your sweet ride. Do you plan to restore it or preserve? I read back through a few pages but dont remember if you had said. You know what I would say do...

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Awesome Ryan! That is a 1st class gesture from them as well!
|
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I plan to pull the front clip and the body off and leave them as is.
I then plan to restore the frame, suspension, drivetrain, fuel system, etc so the car is very reliable and still has some of that patina we love so much!!! I hope to leave the electrical as is for now, TBD. I will have the scratches touched up, but really have no plans to paint the car. I am so tempted to build it to the PSMCDR limits but that will have to be phase 2:-) my extra engine and extra trans' are ear marked for Mid Michigan Motorplex. Ryan |

So hook me up with an extra W-31!!!!!! Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Reminds me of "Mister Mom"......."W-30,W-31----whatever it takes!"
Ryan, I'm sure you already know that other than the balancer (which I don't use on my "good" engines) all '69 350 SBO APPEAR the same on the exterior. I have 3 in stock and located another. Find yourself another core and save your warranty engine. |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Deal!!

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
We have bling!!
To match my B80 and B90 trim I bought wheel well mouldings:-) 3 are very good and 1 needs a little repair. These are hard to find, and my car didn't come with them originally but I am confident they will cover up a few scratches around the wheel well lips and really set the car off nice:-) Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2422-image.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2423-image.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2424-image.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2425-image.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2426-image.jpg |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Ryan I love the added look of the wheel well trim. Recently picked up a really nice set myself.
|
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
You should be ashamed to drill into that original virgin sheet metal
It will look nice. My plater and polisher can repair and polish all 4 of your wheel well moldings to look like jewelry. Dan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Correct.....I would leave it to the experts to handle this......plus you need specialty tools to do it right.
Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I wouldn't do it.
|
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
ah... buy those from Bill? Saw his for sale ad the other day, he's a good guy.
My .02... be careful not to over polish/restore those trim pieces if you decide to install them. Putting nicely restored/polished trim on a patina car tends to make the trim pop too much and take away from the aged look the rest of the car has. I've seen it done, tried doing something similar on a car, and it just didn't work as well as I thought. I'd have a hard time drilling and installing the extra trim on a stripped down documented post car, but that is personal preference. |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Thanks for the opinions!
Yea bought off CO, from Bill. I have a while to consider drilling:-) Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
To drill or not to drill.....the purist will always be against you.
It`s all part of putting yourself out there, what to do Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Don't lay awake at night:-) I will save all the metal drillings to put it back to stock if needed:-) (JOKE) I like feedback, of all kinds.
But the one area I am felling more and more purist about is the garish hole around the shifter......does anyone have a donor shifter hump for this car for sale? The more I see the original shifter handle and boot the more I want a decent shifter hidden under the original stuff. Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Get on Classic Oldsmobile.... and ask that question.

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
If you were to put them on I'd leave them the way they are the slight dent adds character to the original car. IMO the car looks great the way it is, but the fun part of this hobby is what peoples personal tastes adds to their cars.

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Pete Leathersac: You are the man!!!
Thanks again for the shifter boot, As you know I am very excited to add items to the car that have meaning and this is one of those items!! Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
So Pete gave you the boot, huh?
Where's the kick in the a$$ smiley. Pete's one of the good guys alright. |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I was reading the assembly manual for my car and noticed that they put a red and white striped tag across the rad cap before shipping the cars, and I remembered seeing this tag still on top of the rad, but the cap has obviously been changed.
Cool detail:-) Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...06-image_2.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-image_1_2.jpg |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I have all the chassis items on order. I love the look of the old remnant!
Maybe some day I will update the stickers? I have every other one itemized but will add this one to my spread sheet. Ryan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Careful, that's the secret chute release pin! Hard to believe but I saved that H-boot over 30 years ago from another Post car I wish I'd kept, a '66 Stude Daytona 2-Dr. Sedan w/ factory SBC! More than happy to pass it on to you Ryan as I was planning to land it on the car anyway so all works out nicely in the end.
