Also looks like silver paint on head next to intake bolt. Other areas are too hard to tell or bare. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/387434-tn_007.JPG

My understanding is that area was painted with aluminum/silver paint to cover bare metal between head and intake. This also why the intake bolts, engine lift brackets and distributor hold down had aluminum overspray. I believe this is why the wirestands were touched up by brush (due to silver overspray). These are the areas/details jewels of information that can only be found on true survivors.

Any overspray on the valve covers??

Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.

Apparently the the drivers wire shield brackets were installed before the engine was painted... the pass were one piece and installed afterwards. It may have to do with how the manifolds are shaped... mid exit on drivers vs rear on the pass.

It looks like the silver was sprayed in order to protect the bolt heads from flash rusting.

Also a great shot of the trunk spatter detail. This one seems to be a more stringy one, as compared to the round blobs.

SIMPLY AWESOME!... Are you going to be taking it to the Camaro Nats in June?

Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.

Probably not. Too much to ship it back and forth. I will probably attempt to have it at whatever show Ashton puts on in Chicago in November. I can then get Norman and his brothers there with the car also.

GREAT TRUNK SHOT. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN ON LA CARS THE TRUNK SPATTER IS STRINGY COMPARED TO THE NORWOOD CARS. KP

Charley, when you get a chance, could you update the hood and trunk stripe dimensions called out in the 1970 Camaro Assembly manual on sheets B2 and B3 of the Z28 option code using your car for reference, then post them for all to see? The dimensions shown are for Norwood built cars. Thanks,

Paul

TimG 02-16-2009 11:11 PM

Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.

Were the LA stripes the same as the Norwood stripes? I think the LA stripes in the rear stopped before the window and Norwood stripes didn't.

Charley...does your air filter element have the square mesh or the diamond shaped mesh? Can you post a pic?

Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.

Thanks Jack, I must have missed it there. There is a guy selling one of these elements in the for sale forum, and he claims this filter is not correct for pre 1974 cars off the assembly line. I noticed that there are 2 distinct types of mesh used on these elements...a diamond mesh as is displayed here, and a square mesh, and both types carry the same AC part number A212CW. I would be interested to hear your opinion on this subject and if the element displayed here on Charleys car is the correct air filter element for a 1970 Z28 (which I'm sure that it is) Thanks!

Jacsey 70Z 02-17-2009 04:53 AM

Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.

Hard to argue with the element on Charlie's car, I think original cars like this will change the way we look at a lot of things.
I have a square mesh A212CW on my car which is a repop, I think now I would go with the diamond mesh.

Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.

Here is Ricks explanation from the other thread. I think it backs up the originality of Charley's

"I think Mark's correct in his original description about this.
True, they did use cross mesh as well as diamond mesh filters on several assembly lines during the same time peroid, but those that started "Best Way To Protect Your Engine-Replace With AC Type A212CW" were what AC was producing during the late 1960's into early 1970's.
Sometime during 1974,they dropped the words "Best Way To",and adopted the shortened version that Marks shows.
I talk among other parts hounds about these when they come up for sale, and we reference them Best Way or NOT Best Way filters.
I consider Charleys filter the original assembly line installed filter, and Marks correct for a 1974 or later assembly.
That yellowing is the original capture oil they saturated these with back then."

Interesting details !!!!!!!!

Charley, this thread is awesome!!!!

I asked this under Mark's thread about the Air Cleaner but I guess it should have been here, https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif so........

Charley,
Without going back through all the photos you've posted already (and again, THANK YOU! ), can you tell me if the oil filter is printed (AC logo), and if so, is it in Red and Blue or just in Black? I remember a shot of the side and bottom showing the bottom embossing but I don't think it shows any logo imprint.

Charlie, If you remove the bottom two bolts the shocks will extend far enough to read the dates (Thats what I did)understand if you don't even want to go that far.

The one and only black printed filter I've seen had only the AC logo, "Full Flow" to the left and "Type PF 25" to the right. No stripes above and below and none of this text on the reverse side.
"THE EFFICIENCY AND CAPACITY OF THIS NEW
OIL FILTER WITH ACRON FILTERING MATERIAL
AND UNIQUE “W” FOLD EXCEEDS THAT OF THE
LONGER PF-11 OR PF-29 IT REPLACES

TIGHTEN ONE TURN AFTER CONTACTING GASKET
CHECK FOR LEAKS"

I was told by a reliable source (who you know) that it was on an extremely low-mile L78 engine from a '70 Camaro. I've seen the filter and am convinced it's legit.

Yep. The only print on the filter is the round AC logo, "Full Flow" to the left and "TYPE PF-25" on the right. And all the print is in Black.
