Round House, Cortlandt Manor, New York The late American comedian, musician and actor Jackie Gleason built the Round House in 1959 as a retreat from his busy working life. Gleason's interest in the paranormal was well-documented and he fittingly nicknamed the 3,950-square-foot home The Mothership. |

And now – to answer a question you did not ask – is how they take those cool “in motion” shots that you see as of late (Robert McGaffin photos)

It is attached to the bottom of the car with magnets and then removed post process via Photoshop. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...toShoot058.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...toShoot059.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...toShoot070.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...toShoot071.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...toShoot072.jpg |
Naturally, there’s a story behind the “behind the scenes” story above:
When we were setting up for the above shot Robert told me that he wanted me to turn the wheels slightly to the left and that we would let the car “roll” while he walked backwards. “Robert” I said “this is 3900 lbs of racecar with a spool - and slicks. It doesn’t just ‘roll’, especially with the front wheels turned”. “That’s ok” he replied. “We’ll just have my faithful assistant give it a little nudge to get started”. “Ok” I said – dubiously. His poor assistant gradually increased his efforts, without much success, until he was quite red in the face and sweating a fair amount. “Tell you what” Robert observed. “How ‘bout we position it at the top of that little hill – and you can leave the wheels straight”. ;) |
The story behind the above story behind the original story:

Designed by the Pontiac engineer Herb Adams in the first half of the 60s, the Vivant 77 was a project of considerable effort. Built from scratch in Adams' garage, the Vivant was an interesting prototype powered by a 370 cubic-inch Pontiac V8 engine and equipped with Corvette C2 suspension and Kelsey-Hayes Bonneville wheels. The body was made of aluminum by the "Beatles of Troy, Michigan" a trio of Englishmen - Harry Kennedy, Jack Henser and John Glover - famous in the American hot rod scene for their great job. It had only one appearance at the Detroit Autorama in 1966 |
----Does it still exist??? Really like that!
----Just answered my own question and it does still exist just as shown......Bill S |

Herb's latest effort, the "Contessa".
I have a story about Herb and Bill Porter, but I won't share it here; you'll have to hear it in person. ;) K |

An 8.5-million-pound rock that fell from a ridge onto a Colorado highway will be turned into a landmark, Gov. Jared Polis announced. The rock will remain on Highway 145 between Cortez and Telluride, and the road will be rebuilt around it. The boulder, which is the size of a two-story building, tumbled from a cliff 2,000 feet above the roadway, CDOT officials said. The new landmark boulder will be dubbed "Memorial Rock," in honor of Memorial Day Weekend, when it fell, officials said. Leaving the boulder where it fell will save taxpayers around $200,000 in blasting and cleanup costs, Polis said. |

Michelin has introduced a prototype of a "puncture-proof tire system" that has no traditional sidewall and carries the vehicle's load courtesy of a newly developed fiberglass material. The tires, known as Uptis (for Unique Puncture-Proof Tire System), will be tested first on the Chevrolet Bolt EV on roads in Michigan. The tires could be available commercially on passenger vehicles as early as 2024, Michelin said. |
