Chrysler introduced it's 440 engine during the 1966 model year. But they seemed to be out of touch with what was happening with Muscle Cars. It was only available as an option on the Dodge Monaco and Plymouth Fury. Instead they pushed the new Street Hemi, an expensive option which would allow Chrysler to run the Race Hemi in NASCAR, and waited until 1967 to "get with the program." Chrysler sold 3,350 Hemi street cars for 1966 . . . Chevy sold 72,000 Chevelle SS 396s while Pontiac sold 96,946 GTOs. I guess Chrysler thought that winning at NASCAR was more important than selling youth oriented cars.

Another mystery . . . Olds equips the 1969 Hurst/Olds with 15" Super Stock wheels with F60x15 RWL tires . . . and that wheel and tire combo is never made an option for the 442. Olds is the only muscle car maker never to offer 15" wheels or 60 series tires :confused2:

Revell began to fund the creations themselves, and their agreement with Roth was to sell models of his creations and pay him a commission.

The problem with the Wishbone was that its delicate front wheels and suspension was too fine for model maker Revell to recreate at a small scale,

Since they couldn’t sell a model of the Wishbone it proved a costly issue for Roth, with no way to recoup his considerable investment. His solution was chopping it up and discarding it, maybe that was more of a catharsis than a carefully considered business decision, but a member of the team, Dirty Doug, was quite fond of the vehicle, so he requested to keep it for himself.

Roth agreed under the condition it was never reassembled. Obviously, this promise was not kept and the car was pieced back together. Roth was upset, as now, he was incapable of making money with the creation after relinquishing ownership.

The car resurfaced in the early 1990s and was sold at Auction to the Tupelo Automobile Museum.

Of all of the oddball creations dreamed up within Big Daddy's workshop, the Wishbone stands out on its own being one of the only one to be powered by a Volkswagen Motor.

When the first versions of Memorial Day were celebrated after the Civil War, the event went by the name Decoration Day, when flowers were laid on graves.

For more than 100 years, Memorial Day was reserved for honoring the lives of Civil War soldiers. The holiday didn’t expand to casualties of all American wars until after World War I.

About two dozen towns across the United States claim they were the first to celebrate Memorial (or Decoration) Day. The U.S. government deems Waterloo, New York, the official 'birthplace' title, though there were informal celebrations before the village’s May 5, 1866, event.

Most experts believe Major General John A. Logan planned the first Decoration Day for May 30, 1868, because Northern and Southern states would have flowers in bloom by then, though others believe the date was ideal because it didn’t coincide with the anniversary of any battles.

In 1868, about 5,000 people decorated graves at Arlington National Cemetery’s first Memorial Day ceremony. About the same number of people still gather there annually.

Until 1971, when Memorial Day became an official federal holiday, the annual commemoration stayed on May 30, no matter what day of the week. Once the Uniform Monday Holiday Act passed, it lined its official date up to the day of the week: the final Monday in May.

During the Civil War, a U.S. general thought the bugle call signaling bedtime could use a more melodious tune, so he wrote the notes for 'Taps' in 1862. Another officer later used the bugle song for a funeral, fearing the traditional firing of rifles might sound like an attack. Now, 'Taps' is a traditional part of Memorial Day celebrations.

On Memorial Day in 1988, about 2,500 motorcycles rode through Washington, DC, calling the government to account for prisoners of war and those missing in action. By 2017, the annual Rolling Thunder First Amendment Demonstration Run, which brings awareness to forgotten Vietnam War veterans, had grown to about 900,000 riders.

Southern states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina plan their own Confederate Memorial Day (or in the case of Texas, Confederate Heroes Day) on various dates, depending on the state.

Although the Korean War lasted just three years, it ranks among the most brutal in U.S. history: 36,574 Americans killed, 103,284 wounded, and 8,200 listed as missing in action or lost at sea. The 5.8 million Americans who served during the "Forgotten War" are memorialized on the National Mall with 7-foot stainless steel statues depicting soldiers of all races and specialties slogging through rice paddies, ponchos blowing in the wind, weapons in hand.

National World War I Museum and Memorial | Missouri

In 1914, the assassination of an obscure Austrian royal set the spark that ignited the first global war in human history, and one of the deadliest. The National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City dates to the days immediately after the war's end, when patriotic city leaders raised the equivalent of $34 million in today's dollars in just 10 days. Two years later, in 1921, Allied commanders dedicated the memorial in front of 100,000 people — the first meeting of all five leaders.

The actual displacement of Ford's Boss 429 was not 429 CI. It is 428 CI. This was the second time Ford "rounded up" the C.I for one of their racing engines. The other was the 427 which displaced 425 C.I..
