The 1967 Buick GS 340 was the first "junior" muscle car. But it was only available with either a 3 speed manual or auto. Why it was not available with a 4 speed manual is a mystery

Does anyone know why PFDB were not standard on the 69 Z/28 as they were on the SS. Was it a way for Chevy to increase the price of the Z/28 by making them a mandatory option?

It's interesting to note that all the brochure photos of the 1970 Challenger R/T with the Magnum 500 "Road Wheels" they are 15" which Dodge never offered as an option.

Mr. Norm managed to convince Chrysler to build 48 (50 by other accounts – logical, as it would qualify the 440 Dart for NHRA) 383/automatic Dart GTSs but without the 383 and tranny installed.
The Darts then went to Hurst-Campbell – the same people building the Super Stock HEMI Darts and Barracudas – to receive the mods to accommodate the 440.
Torqueflite automatic was the only transmission offered because installation required less fuss plus the Dana rear required with the four-speed would not fit. Batteries were relocated to the trunk.
The piece de resistance was the name change to Dart GSS: Grand Spaulding Special.

The total sales of Muscle Cars for 1965 reached over 100,000:
L79 Chevelle: 6021
Z16 Chevelle: 201
327 Chevy II: 643
4-4-2: 2999
K Code Mustang: 1051
Skylark GS: 15,780
GTO: 75,352
TOTAL: 102,047
That was pretty much it for 1965. Chrysler had no entries nor did Mercury or AMC. In an industry that counted sales in the millions, why were these new fangled Muscle Cars so important to Detroit? The answer is very simple: A new market with young new buyers. Industry marketing found that most buyers were brand loyal. THE hardest thing to accomplish in sales is getting new clients. "If you build a better mousetrap . . . the world will beat a path to your door."
