Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
I'll play, just because I love this "day 2" stuff. Here's my Chevy II with the "poor boy street racer" look. Black steel wheels and chrome lugs. Lots of folks just pulled the caps for the "racer look" back in the mid-60s when they could not afford wheels. See the vintage '62 409 pic on page 2 of this thread.
It has a 327 under the hood and a Muncie 4-spd on the bench that will be replacing the Powerglide in a month or two. I'm thinking I need a set of chrome reverse wheels and piecrusts on the rear. http://home.comcast.net/~john.sm/novawwtires.jpg |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
I have just run across some day 2 Mr Gasket valve covers that I have never seen before:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26...ay/mrgicon.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26.../may/mrgcu.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26...n/may/mrgs.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26...y/mrginall.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26.../may/mrgno.jpg Anyone know anything about these? I am guessing pre-69 as it has the weird breather cage, but maybe the other side had some sort of adapter that allowed the cap to be twisted on. Unfortunately all I have is pictured |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Love that Camaro, the Vette, and the Chevy II.
Cannot get enough of that Day 2 stuff. |

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Vintage Mallory Rev Pol transformer (coil) nos in the box. Neat piece. Every "day 2" car I ever remember used to have a Mallory Rev Pol ignition. I have never seen one of these NOS before. I currently have it listed on ebay.

I think he was saying it is currently a powerglide and it will be sporting a Muncie shortly. Nothing like rowing the boat!

Jason </div></div> Correct. Powerglide is Boring in a street car with the tall first gear, although highway on ramps can be fun when it kicks down into low at 40 mph. I fully expect it will be a whole different car once I get the M20 installed. It's in pieces now - Autogear case, GM 26-spline input, etc. Should be assembling and installing in the coming months as soon as I find time. |

No cool back story i found it in a old timer's garage while buying something else. He said mid 70's mail order probly from Gratiot auto supply .. I almost missed it it was upside down filled with magazines and catalogs including this old Gratiot catalog ... Its most likely A&A it is not as heavy(thicker glass ) as the other one (pictured below) i have so its was a racer grade version or latter .. It is very cool !!!! http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...6/IMAG0355.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...6/IMAG0356.jpg |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Doesnt AA fiberglass scoops bolt on
|
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Not sure if anyone has seen the latest Car Craft, but they have a really nice 68 Camaro with a near-perfect Day Two look.
|
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
The "Grump's Group" Camaro is a neat. Most of the old school stuff like the Cragar and such are modern wheels, but they have the old school feel. I don't want to be too down on the "vintage" parts but the over-all theme is good.

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
I can't decide if I like this look or not. Old Mickey Thompson Sportsman 29X12.5-15 on American 8.5 x 15 T-70. Both wheels and tires need a major cleanup. Any opinions?

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
yeah, add some stainless steel mud flaps and keep em
|
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
black car, I like some chrome! Love the tires though. YES, I am for the thin little mud flaps from years ago.

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Looks GOOD> are you running the Same type of rims in Front? From what I see in OLD magazines a LOT of the FASTER cars had missmatched rims>Your car with those Rims in back looks more WESTCOAST style- eastcoast cars usually ran cragars or keystones..Either way it makes you Car look COOL!I like that look-Mudflaps IF you can find them are PERIOD Perfect..

Thank's for the replies. I think Sam told me what I wanted to hear. The black car needs some chrome. I am going stick with the Cragar's currently on the black car. The T-70's with the M/T's I am going to restore and put on the blue Camaro. The Torq Thrust style works best for me on a lighter color. |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Sounds like a good plan to me! I know back 40 years ago or so when I went to change over to mags on my 69 nova, my parents said come on Sammy that dark blue nova you have needs a little chrome. I Can still hear my dad saying those kind of things. Needless to say I went with the Cragars and the H70 Schenuits on the back. I will never forget those days.

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
All my dad told me was to get that P.O.S. out of his driveway!!
|
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
HAAA! I heard that a few times too.
|
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
I made a new day 2 look for my Nova this year... I bought some M&H Racemaster cheater slicks and mounted them on my Cragar wheels... Plus a couple other modifications, Hurst/Gabriel Drag Shocks and Dick Harrell leaf spring clamps.
