Good to see you have not grown up entirely!

No one has asked the question, how long was the burnout? At least I would hope you would have put on a show worth $500!!

Flash back to Clovis, NM in the 60s -- there were no mandatory seat belt laws back then. At that time I had a 63' Vette drop-top and if there were three riders, one sitting on the console, the police would stop me and point out that was illegal. Now the crazy thing was if one of the ladies were driving and I had another lady sitting on my lap -- that was OK ... Go figure. TAZ

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2

A little update on the Chevelle........Since completion in May of 2014, we have driven it on two Power Tours (Long Haul).....Did the Goodguys Hall of Fame Road Tour this year, and put on 14,240 miles in total ...........Along the way, after getting the brake issue corrected, the only other issues were a flat tire,....... a broken tail pipe hanger,......and a slight problem with the plug on the Throttle Position Sensor caused by condensation while cleaning the engine at a quarter car wash (since sealed up and corrected)..........LOL.......These LS engines are the best thing since sliced bread !!!..........But....with all Good things there is an end.........Had to pull the car into the garage and do some Heavy Maintenance to it........Changed the Oil and Filter.........Sheesh !!!!.........And .....after driving the Chevelle for a year and a half.......a new standard for "Drivable" torque has been established.........so.......The Impala will be upgraded and the "New" project will be starting shortly after the Impala is finished...........Stay Tuned.........I found the purse........LOL........

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2

A little update........We did the Goodguys Road tour this year......Started in Denver and finished in Bowling Green Ky.......Just after leaving the venue on the start of the tour, we didn't get 10 miles and I got a flat tire on the Highway......Passenger rear.......the tire was non fixable, but Luckily Goolsby Customs had a trailer along just for these situations.......So...we get it loaded up and we drive to a Costco (this was on Sunday so we didn't have too many options)........Costco had the Michelien tire in the same size but not the same model.......Put it on and started driving........Drove 180 miles to the hotel for the night and caught up with everyone........but, as I was getting of the highway and made a turn into the motel.........the rear end was "chattering" like crazy.........Humm!!!.....I figured that there might be a slight difference in tire size as the other tire had a couple burnouts and 12,000 miles on it......and that was causing some issues with the Posi unit........so...I started calling around trying to find another tire and still keep with the group........No Luck.......It ended up that some days we drove 300-500 miles ....so , there wasn't a lot of time to deal with this issue......I was able to buy some more posi additive and add it to the rear to add a little more lubricity to the clutches.......That worked a little better as most of the "Chatter" was now gone.......when we finally got home (2000 miles)I measured the circumference of the tires......the result was that after figuring it out ........every mile traveled the old tire rotated 7 times more than the new tire.....and after draining out the old fluid which probably got very hot with the clutches fighting each other.......I could see it was all discolored.....so I put all new tires on the car , but........Now I have a rear end howl.......Time to get everything replaced "Again"....Just a word of caution for others..........

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2

So......One of the maintenance issues with the 2014 and older LSA engines is the Isolator coupler between the drive pulley and the rotors.......originally it was designed with a spring mechanism to cushion the force put into the rotors.......well...in theory it worked perfectly........the downside is that the spring wears into the shaft and makes a Rattling noise that's sounds like marbles being ground up inside the unit........GM changed to a composite solid coupler that does the job and it's Quiet.....

So.........I decided to work on the Chevelle today and replace the coupler which requires the snout removal......Everything went smooth till it was time to break the snout loose.....Didn't want to come off, so....rather than force it , I decided to remove the whole assembly from the engine to do it correctly.........more work, but I can sleep at night now..............Got it all back together and all the marbles are gone.....LOL

Had an issue pop up with the Chevelle and thought I would pass this along.......LOL.....It never ends.........On last years Good-Guys Road tour every so often when starting the car ..........there would be no response when the key was turned to the start position......hit it 4 or 5 times and it would start and run fine, other times it would crank over without starting, then after a couple of minutes it would start..........Hummmm!!!........Now, I have an Alarm system in the car that is set to disable the starter circuit with relays when the Alarm is on...........Hummmm!!!!.........So......over the Winter the car sat in the garage with a Trickle Charger on it, and recently I started driving it again........started and ran perfect went out for a drive and after about 45 minutes I was just pulling into the driveway and the car shut off..........Hummmm!!!!.....When trying to start it, again ....the same symptoms.........Pushed it in the garage and put the Battery charger on it and after charging, it would start and run perfect........Hummm!!!.......When driving it, the Voltmeter was showing charge, but not a high charge......(13 volts).....I know the ECM is set to not function in a low voltage situation........maybe that's why it would spin over and not start........Hummm!!!.....But.....I didn't understand why the Voltmeter was showing charge and yet the Battery would go dead....The car should still run even without the Battery.........Something Goofy going on here !!!!............I go and buy a new Battery and put it in...........Go out for a drive......Voltmeter is around 13 Volts and after 45 minutes of driving the car shuts off...........Open the Hood and I smell something ..........Hummm!!!!........Car would crank over but not start.......I sat there for a while,(had no choice as I was about a mile from the house)........After 10 minutes the car started and I made it to a local repair shop..........New Battery......Voltmeter showed charging.......and it quits!!!............Darn this car stuff is Hard !!!!!!!..........Told the guys at the repair shop not to call until they had it fixed........I explained the Starter inhibit built into the alarm system and told them if they thought that was an issue to remove the system..............So.....I get a ride home and 10 minutes later they call and said the car was fixed ................Typical me.....Making things a lot more complicated and involved than need be...........Alternator feed wire nut to the Battery loosened up.........the smell I smelled was the melting of the plastic conduit around the wire and nut where the resistance from the loose connection made a lot of heat.......Duhhhhh!!!.........The loose connection was enough to feed the Voltmeter , but not enough to send the Amps to the Battery for recharging........Hence the Battery going dead ...........

Never ending battle for truth, justice and the American way ...

What happens to all the little ground up pieces of metal from that internal snout coupling getting chewed up? Does it stay in that snout area or circulate somewhere more damaging? I imagine that after enough of it is created it just becomes a more aggressive grinding media that further escalates the erosion? How many miles did it take to get to that degree of damage?

This took about 14 K for that to happen.......Stayed right there in the case..........Eventually if not repaired with the new coupler it will take the bearings out........

Just when you think everything is going smoothly..........I was talking to Donnie at Frame-Up today about CV Joint drive shafts......He was talking about the inherent problem of the boots on the CV joint splitting allowing the grease to get out, and Dirt to get in.........When I get home I put the car on the lift and check it out.........Boot split and full of dirt.....Darn.......Pulled it out and sending it back to the Driveshaft Shop tomorrow to get it repaired......2-3 weeks till it gets back..........always something........

Kind of hard to see........But it's split......Grease gone........Dirt in.....

wonder if you could use Royal Purple coupling grease as it will not separate like normal grease (EP 2 ) does at high centrifugal speed? just wondering

Update....... Didn't drive the car much this year, been driving the Impala all over..... Took the Chevelle out last week for a local show..... the car ran perfect as usual... On the way home after getting off the highway I noticed the engine was running rough...... Humm!!!!..... I was 10 minutes from home so when I got the car in the garage (no check engine light) I plugged the scanner in and no codes....... Hummm!!!!!......Used the infared heat gun and shot all the Header pipes...... #3 cyl was showing no heat....... Humm !!!!....... Put a spare coil on and started it up .......Same thing......Pulled the spark plug and it looked O.K........ Checked for spark and everything good......Hummm!!!!!......Got Air....Got Spark..... Fuel????...put a Noid light on the plug on injector #3 and everything good....... Hummm !!!!...... The only thing that made any sense was that the injector went bad (36,000 miles)....... Ordered a new set and put them in and the car run's perfect again......... You never know...... LOL
