My 0C18 has a 201. Colvin lists the 2019 as a 1973437
I always thought mine was wrong. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
charlie... are the stands for the plug wire shields on the drivers side painted?
|
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
Yes..stands on both sides are brush painted orange. Or maybe spray painted and brush painted as touch up ?

Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
Congrats Charlie, good choice to fire it up!! Pushing cars around gets real old.
Whats next a smokey burnout? |
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
Charlie, I think the question above was the heat shield brackets on the drivers side, down on the exhaust manifold. Hard to tell from your pictures, but they should be Orange. Drivers side bolt on the bractet and passenger side are welded.
you see these wrong all the time. |
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
Thata boy! Good to hear it run again!
|
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
ahh..now I understand his question. I will check. My clean barn will never be the same with all the crap that blew out the exhaust after sitting for 36 years.

Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
Charley,
Definitely the most useful 2nd gen info I have seen anywhere. Maybe you and Macneish oughta consider a "Definitive 2nd Generation Z/28" book for the non-computer literate... JB |
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
I plan on putting up a website with bigger pics so people can refer to them if they want info on how this one was put together. I'm really comfortable with how orig this car is from what I am seeing and the history of it. Yes there are some pics that people could care less about but some of the stuff is very helpful when trying to sort a car out that has been messed with for 39 years.

. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/386873-tn_018.JPG [/ QUOTE ] I have a photo of another hinge I have in my photos with this blue paint mark. Anyone ever see this on a first generation Camaro ? I am assuming it was a vendor thing and not done on the line. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Or was it a line thing an inspector did after the hood was adjusted. Neat thread, I don't think your boring anyone yet Charley. More https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Mike |
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
The blue paint mark on the pass side is a common item on the second gen hood hinge. I havent seen them on the driver's side though.
|
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
Mine has the identical paint marks on both sides.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y86...6/DSCN6169.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y86...6/DSCN6171.jpg You can see that the paint mark was applied with the hood open, then after closing the hood, the paint ran down the hinge. Paul |
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
The blue dripped paint flow could also have come from when the manufacturer made them and hung them upside down.
Does anyone have a definitive explanation of whether these were an assembly line or a manufacturer's inspection mark??? |
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
I believe the paint marks were applied after the hood hinges were properly adjusted.

Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
Charlie, you didn't have to drop the gas tank ? Was it bone dry?

Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
Charlie, how about a quick run down on what you did in preparation for the fire up. Did you pull the distributor and prime the pump? Drain the tank, change the oil etc.?
|
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
|
Re: really cool 70 Z28..simply the best.
Gary. I had pulled the plugs, squirted motor oil in each cylinder and let it sit for a couple days, turned with torque wrench on the crank and tapped the starter. The dist will not com out so there was no way to prime it that way. Squirted more oil in cylinders and cranked it over with the plugs out. Oil pressure light went out right away. Put 3 gallons of race gas in the tank. Had to file the points to get spark, pour gas in the carb to make it fire. When it fired yesterday there was gas leaking out of the carb from shrunken gaskets.

When I pulled the float bowls off they were absolutely clean inside. Whole carb was clean. Just shrunken gaskets. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/387253-tn_002.JPG
