Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
Coming along nicely. The MPH is there for solid 11 second passes.
Can you post the incrementals, and do you know what the car weighs? |
Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
Be SURE to remove the 11 cases of Sun Drop Soda, before you weigh the car

Thanks again for the compliments....it's nice to see the car improve but still be fun to drive.
Dan.....I completely forgot to take the Sun Drop out. Eric, I believe the car weighs 3600 w/out me in it. Here are the numbers from the last run: 60'...1.831 330...5.184 1/8...7.905 MPH...89.35 1000..10.281 1/4...12.281 MPH...112.89 I ran pump gas with octane boost, timing was at 39*, no air cleaner or spare tire with 15.5 lbs of air in the rear tires. Kurt </div></div> Kurt; You're picking up 23.5 mph on the back half which is pretty good for this combination. Pick up that 60' time ~.2 and 11's are in the bag. -Is the car dead-hooking? If so, does it bog at all on the launch? -For comparisons sake: what were the 60' times with the 780/163? (can't remember, does the 163 still have the plenum divider intact?) -Did you change the rear gears and intake/carb at the same time? -Is the timing locked out @ 39°, or is there a functioning curve? If so, what are the #'s? -Have you done A-B-A testing with/without the air cleaner to verify it is faster w/o? -What's the pump cam/squirter combo on the carb? (4781?) -Shocks/springs/sway bar(s)? -Any front or rear suspension traction aids? (appears the car leaves pretty level now, unusual for a "stock" A body) In case I haven't said so lately, I seriously dig that car. |

Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
It hooked pretty good at first with a 4000 rpm launch but then spun a little.
I can't find my time slip from Joliet but here's my best time from Byron: 60'...2.185 330...5.595 1/8...8.417 MPH...87.17 1000...10.841 1/4...12.912 MPH...108.38 That was with the M/T Indy Profile tires leaving 2000 rpm's or so. I had the 163 intake and the 4346 Holley on it. I changed the intake only and took the car to the track early spring. It was opening day of GLD and it was a little cool. The car was spinning bad in first an getting sideways in second with both ET's in the 13.1xx. I wasn't very happy with the track so I loaded it up and went home. Then I put the 850dp on and changed the gears. The timing has a mechanical advance with a 14* differential. So at 39* total timing it starts out at 25*. I started out with the air cleaner on then took it off after the 3rd or 4th pass but I made other changes too. Yes....I should have made one more pass with it on but I was too happy with the last pass. I'm embarrassed to say that I just threw the 4781 on that a friend let me borrow to try without doing anything to it but the motor seems to like it....a lot. The carb looks to be stock. The accelerators are 30cc in the front and 50cc in the rear. It has 31/31 squirters. I'm not sure what the cams are but appear to be white (F) and pink (R)??? I have Koni shocks up front but not sure what the are exactly and a sway bar. The rear shocks are QA1 12 position adjustable. I installed Edelbrock Anti-Hop bars installed with the upper and lower control arms boxed in with no sway bar in back. I have air bags on both rear springs but forgot to check that day. Thanks, Kurt |
Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
Kurt, Did you ever run the car at the strip. with slicks on it? Slicks usually put the power to the track? Since you said you where spinning the tires. The Dutchman

Benny, I'm currently using M/T ET Street tires which, correct me if I'm wrong, are very close to ET Drag tire except ET Street tires are DOT approved. They are a couple of years old but haven't been used very much.....until now. Kurt |

Boy does that bring back memories. I had that identical view and sound for several years.
