Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
I can't believe you couldnt get a title for that Pontiac. Alabama title services can get you a title for anything that hasn't been reported stolen..... Also if you are going to post pics, you may have crushed them, but at least tell us that someone saved em ;-)

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
You know, that rear wheel looks alarmingly alot like a magnesium Halibrand with the way its tarnished. Please check into that.
|
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
My friend needs those tail lights on the Ventura. Maybe the dash panel too.
|
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
You know, if these guy is not getting that wheel, and a bunch of other stuff I see going to scrap, he is a goof and just screwing around with us...showing all of this that he is scrapping....I hope I am wrong and he is pulling a lot of useful parts off of these cars.
|
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
You know that for sure! Those Ventura's are few and far between! My friend owns a 71 1/2. We have been trying to find parts for his for about 10 yrs now. UGH! Like Dennis Gage says, "Honor the timeless classics. Don't crush em restor em." Gives new meaning to timeless. Not too long before they hit the crusher!

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
From what I have seen in these photos from the recycling yard, someone could have made a few thousand bucks on parts and a few of the cars. Seems to me that some common sense could be used by owners of these places and put some out front for sale or set some aside to give time for the parts to be pulled. I wonder how many rare steering wheels and bucket seats have been smashed that were in perfect shape. hard to find glass, wheels and even speed parts still under the hood of these cars is just being wasted. I would have saved those slots on the ventura. Lots of Nova parts on those cars.

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
sorry i didnt get the wheel(1 wheel was on the car).the guy who dropped the car off got the wheel.i have no reason to screw around with you or anybody else on here for that matter.i do get parts off some of the cars and some i just dont have time to get antything other than a picture(i work there 70hrs a week and most of the time i really dont care to be there any longer).you have never asked me about any parts on the cars so you have know idea what i took or what i didnt.some of these pictures are 5 years old.only 1 person from here asked me about parts.the parts he wanted i didnt have.not all of the cars were from the salvage yard.alot of them were my own cars i bought for parts.i do take the bucket seats, consoles, power options,12 bolts, disc brakes, tachs, gauges, trim ect.i dont advertise everything i have.most of it goes in my shop and just sits but some does get sold.so i guess next time you think somebody is screwing around with you or think hes a goof you may have bought parts from that goof and he is a pretty decent fair guy!!

let's not get excited, it's just a photo gallery and comments should be light. It's a real hassle taking photos and posting them, especially older non digital stuff that has to be scanned. I for one would not bite the hand that feeds me entertainment.

Jrn101, I like your pics alot too. It's hard to save em all. I live in a subdivision and have to be careful what I bring home and have to be quick about stripping them... The pics are awesome though. Lots of the ones I see and get a pic of are destined for the crusher too. All the ones I submitted last week are about 15 minutes from a recycling center.... It's just a matter of time... I was talking to some guys in the area last week at a body shop and they were telling me that the thieves in the area are pulling wire from the center pivots in the fields and taking them to scrap as well as pulling it all out of grain bins. It is costing farmers thousands to replace it. At the junkyard last week the owner was telling me that thieves sneak in at night and steal his catalytic converters.... I can't stand a thief. As time goes on however, anything that isn't running or being watched closely will be hauled in for scrap... It's best to photograph the ones that can't be saved. Keep posting them, sometimes it's better than a sad country song... "dog died, wife left with best friend.... car got crushed... Here's one I saved from the crusher. Drove it for a year and sold it as a parts car, to a guy with a 442 ragtop.
This car was really rusty, but had lots of goodies. http://www.9c1.net/forum/uploads/113...9_51_23460.jpg |

That is an interesting shot of the Impala wagon. I wonder is the nose was cut to remove the motor. odd. great photos, keep em comoing https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Can I come work for you? It's a heck of a lot easier taking them apart and not putting them back together. Plus I need a carreer change anyway. I'd rather crawl through cars then some of the crap people have stuffed up in their attics! Be kind to an HVAC technician this year and all other years hereafter. This is why we are a dying breed. We get sucked into car stuff! Love all the car pics even if they are in a junkyard. Means more parts for me! Scrap more 4 doors. Umm I misspelled it for a reason. (carreer)

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Here's a fairly rare 65 Studebaker Daytona "Sport Sedan" I bought as a parts car. It was pretty rotted but still had some good parts. It originally came with a Chevy 283 automatic, twin traction Dana 44 rear end, transistorized ignition, bucket seats etc. It was built at the Hamilton, Ontario plant.

[/ QUOTE ] Actually, that looks a lot like an old scrappers trick to pull an engine when there was no hoist available--cut however much you need off the nose to clear the engine and drag it out the front with a heavy chain. Seen it done more times than I care to remember. (I still shudder at the memories) Eric |
Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
I have watched my great Uncles do that several times. They torch the front end and sometimes the mounts and secure a HUGE logging chain to the engine and take off in the truck and when the chain reaches the end.... out comes engine and trans. Load em up and scrap em. I watched them do it to a pristine falcon pickup truck once. They jerked the engine/trans and part of the cap off the car. Chain was about 80 ft long https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif. Fun to watch https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif.

Re: ROTTING MUSCLECARS
Back in the late sixties we would pick up old cars and bring them to the junkyard
in Jamaica (Queens) . You got $13 if it had a battery, starter, generator and radiator. It did not matter what else was or wasn't in the car. They would climb on top of the car, whack a hole in the roof with an axe and hook it with a crane. It would be hoisted about three feet and the wheels came off with a T wrench. With the car about six feet off the ground they would torch the engine and trans mounts and cut the drive shaft. A bounce or two with the crane and the whole mess would fall out. The car would be hoisted about ten feet away and another whack with the axe would drain the gas tank. Then up on the pile it went, total time five minutes. Everything drained on the ground and it was like quicksand walking through it. I never saw a fire, a car land on anyones head or anyone from the EPA! I'm sure the location should have been a Superfund site by the nineties! |

Love your shots and appreciate the time you take to post them. Its amazing I don't know what it is but something about looking at this old iron brings out memories and feelings I can't explain. I guess its knowing how these cars started out and seeing how they have wound up - they are like old friends who need help! Hope you can find the rest, would love to see them. |
