The preparation for arrival continues...
Classic industries had a set of the front seats but no rear seat set in stock. Everyone in Mopar land I spoke to said not to mix and match vendors because the dye lots Legendary uses have slight differences and there's a 95% chance the seats won't match. So I ordered the matching front and rear seat sets directly from Legendary. They had a 20% off coupon expiring today...delivery date around Thanksgiving. UGH! The rest of the white interior stuff (door panels, rear panels, visors, headliner, etc.) I am getting from Roseville Chrysler. They had it all in stock or arriving within the week. The headliners are made to order from their other supplier since Legendary had a 6 week minimum wait on theirs, and I need to get the headliner in first before anything else can be done on the car - like front and rear glass, interior moldings... |
That’s going to POP with the white interior. Nice change!
Undercoating gets sprayed today (work interrupted me with a Kansas City overnight over the weekend, but at least I got some good BBQ!) then the bumpers painted and installed this week!:3gears: Then it’s onto the final polish and buff to catch the spots I missed or new ones I made with the reassembly:mad2: Cheers Dave |
Transport scheduled for next Wednesday the 19th, then it's northbound and down! :-)

Undercoating day! If one is curious about what happens to undercoating when sprayed in a climate that mimics the atmosphere of Mercury, look know further than North-Central Texas and spray away! No, you're not getting hit by BBs. That's the spray solidifying in mid air then hitting the car and bouncing back into you! Best part? The concrete is so hot that it turns back from a solid state into a liquid on the frying-pan style floor so it becomes a gooey mess on everything but where it needs to be stuck to. I know.... and you wonder why I'm getting out of the hobby! :rolleyes2:
But it finally all came out like it was supposed to. We decided sloppy... but not too sloppy. The inner splash shields for the rear upper control arm adjusters are missing, so a paper towel on one side protects the engine from overspray. The other side will need replacing but it'll do for this. So with this done, the car is packed up and ready to go. Bumpers get painted tomorrow in the morning when it's cooler and will be mounted up Friday! Hopefully they'll be no issues and then a couple mor passes with the buffer! Back on its feet too! Cheers Dave |
Incredible! Quality and Speed.

Dave, fess up. Kelly is doing most of the work, right? :eek2::wink:
Amazing stuff!! |
It's gotta be the shoemaker's elves.
|
Simply Amazing Dave, I have so enjoyed watching you restore the Cuda.
Thanks Gregg |

Don't worry. Dave's just saying that as I am sure many here have after a long tough restoration. It's the old "I'm not going to do that again" spiel . . . until another car catches his eye. It's in his blood. It's part of his persona.
Right Dave? |
Yeah, unfortunately it is, Lee. I'm so anxious to get back on that 507 I can't stand it. Plus, who's threads have commentary that makes no sense like mine? And Des, we all know I'll be getting a Judge one day!
This car has just beat me up eight ways to Sunday! I do appreciate there compliments, guys! They mean a lot! Cheers:beers: Dave |
I'm exhausted too, and not just because I have a cadre of delivery driver assassins vowing revenge against me, for impugning their reputations for the fact that they couldn't seem to find Dave's evil lair down on that volcanic island in central Texas.
Once I can lure them away from Dave, he should recover forthwith. Let's see if they dare travel to New Jersey for the continuation of this miniseries... And when Dave finds his Judge, we are flipping the tables and it's going to start its first half up here while I build the engine and do the greasy stuff. |

I've gotten a few messages about the undercoating and what I used. Seems the gooey mess looks good and others want to mimic my mess!:hmmm:
The product is RestRick's undercoating. It's just about as identical to factory undercoating/ sound deadener that you can get. It's ready to spray as-is, no mixing, and what I use to spray it is a bottle and shutz style gun from a used Raptor spray bed liner kit. I use a very low PSI, like 10 or so, and it comes out thick and goopey and really looks original. Raising the pressure will spray it finer. Excellent stuff and paintable like the inner quarters are. The purple paint poses poignantly although procrastination presented itself post haste! But finally they will be mounted tomorrow if I don't have to go to work! Adhesion promoter in the epoxy, then flex agent in the clear. That should compensate for any wiggle that happens during installation. Hopefully not creating cracks like Ray the Plumber displays during a call to fix a leaky faucet! :bs: I was lucky to get these painted this morning since it's oh...I don't know...a billion degrees right now? :rolleyes2: Cheers :beers: Dave |
Man, that's perniciously purdy.
|
Precisely!
Cheers Dave |

Dave:
You ever do back-to-back restorations before? Like you did with that white truck and now the 'Cuda. |
Hi Lee,
Yep; Bee and Mustang....1949 Truck and T-Bird....1968 Charger and 1969 Charger.... and on and on. Never had near the amount of problems these last two cars have given me. I promised myself with the 507 that no other cars will be touched until that is done and I'm behind the wheel! Now, I still have a two-tier deck, firepit, outdoor cedar furniture set, and if course, finishing up my big shop to do in the meantime! :burnout: Cheers Dave |
Well you know what they say Dave . . .
Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. |
Dave, did I mention that my wife wants a deck built? (in exchange for "allowing me to have the Cuda").
We can probably do them both at the same time and save money... |
Thanks, Lee. I appreciate the advice.
Cheers :beers: Dave |
Dave you should be able to get all of that done by the middle of next week and then be on to the next project. I've seen your work.

Yeah, true Bruce. I just bought a new toy that will keep me busy which is non-automotive related, which will recharge the batteries!
Bumpy-bumps are painted and installed! :headbang: Cheers Dave |
Dave:
Are you going to add the Sport Stripes with 340 call out? https://i.postimg.cc/4N48wCzq/56.jpg |
It wasn’t ordered with stripes. Looks nice and clean without them.

But I like those! and the white interior. :-)
And it would have cost around 1/2 of the price of the elastomeric bumpers to get the original chrome bumpers rechromed properly. With a "unknown" wait time since all the decent chrome shops were closed. |
The body color bumpers are killer! VE3 is the first upgrade I make to every 69 Camaro I buy.
|
|
Looks amazing Dave, but now you gotta give us a clue as to what your new "toy" is!
|
I'll start another thread on that one! We'll keep this thread Crustified!:eek2:
I didn't like those bumpers originally, but now that they are on they do look sharp! Good call Steve-O! She's back into the small shop for another round of polishing. gogglesgoggles Cheers Dave |
BTW, Dave, be prepared if you start on a 69 Judge with hideaways. That's the car my son wants as "our" next project.

As of today, the Crusty Cuda thread will henceforth and forthwit be narrated by NJSteve. It's a festivous day, indeed!
With bumpers painted, a fresh go over with the buffer, and skill/ precision/ ninja handling, the car is loaded up and headed Norf. Steve and I agreed that I'd have this car back to him in August and initially I told him "Heck yeah, man!" Then after I figured out that August was the hottest month of the year here with a daily high of a billion degrees, I emailed him and said "No freaking way man!" Then the sniffles hit, the nation got scared and bought all toilet paper since when someone sneezed it caused a reaction for one to crap their pants, and found I had a lot of time at home to get things done. See? You gotta find a positive in everything! So I can happily report I made the deadline!:flag: You're up, Steve-O! I'm anxious to see that white interior. That'll POP!!! Email this evening comin' in HOT! Cheers:beers: Dave |
What happened to the Crunchy Cuda? I lost track.
|
Great job Dave!!
