The NMCA "True Street" class has to do a 25 mile cruise to prove the car's streetability. If you pass the cruise portion then you make 3 passes back to back without being allowed to work on the car. The three runs are averaged and cars ranked on that value, with an overall winner and runner up, and then class winners on 1 second intervals (ie, closest to 9 flat, 10 flat, 11 flat, etc).
Normally it occurs on public roadways but when we go to Joliet the whole cruise takes place on property. We get to cross the street and do a few laps on the Chicagoland Speedway circle track.
In order to get onto the track you have to pass through a tunnel. You better believe everybody gets on the throttle when they go through that tunnel!
