[/ QUOTE ] Actually, grease paint, but yes, that is the mark that was determined to place the wheel weight. I work in the paint shop at the Ford KC plant as a supplier. A few years back, we had some warranty issues with yellow spot on units. Started to do some backtracking and the grease paint (using yellow titanium dioxide) was being applied too heavy and was flinging off the wheels as it was going thought its 'road test'. The paint, although cured, was still fresh and getting stained. We saw staining from storage additives from gasoline too. I saw a question about the sequence number... I heard someone tell it a while back and I know it holds true today. When we have a issue with a unit in the plant, we always refer to it by the 4 digit sequence number. Mind you, there are 7 digits in the sequence, but we only use 4 because a unit a sequence number 10000 old should not be in the plant!! i.e.-- 204 8647 would be yelled out as sequence # 8647. |

Different bolts
When disassembling various Oldsmobiles over the years (all Lansing Built) I notice a left side/right side difference on lots of fastners. The area I remember was the various componets under the dash, such as wirw harnesses and ducting. Left side held in place with Phillips Screws and right side with hexhead screws. As a lot of components were installed by different groups and fastners came from different suppliers you will see inconsistancy in bolt types.
As far as the build sheets are concerned, the one in the seat was likely put there by upholstery side of Fischer Body. I have notied them left the the back of left side bucket seats on 70-72 A bodies, depending on plant, some were hogged in and others were loose. Great job with the photos and documentation. This tread is getting as long as "Street scenes" and "Rotting Muscle". Keep em coming. Paul |

[/ QUOTE ] Chuck, I enjoy the cars that have been taken to "anal" levels and certainly appreciate those, yourself included, that actually TRY to document & judge "the way they were". "Trailer queens" are beautiful works of art. I respect and painfully appreciate the sacrifice that has occurred to get them to those levels. I appreciate them as much as the time capsules that are not "perfect" and as much as the barn finds that have been used to within an ounce of their life, they all are exciting to look at and read about. "Making light" of the way that the GM line workers assembled cars in hap hazard methods 30+ years ago is a release from the sometimes all too serious outlook we all are guilty of with this old car passion. No disrespect is meant to those that have those beautiful cars, we ALL enjoy them. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
