Corvette Rabbit Hole...

Today was focused on the rear end, or at least as far as I could get with the parts I have. USPS was kind enough to delay (lose) some parts I needed to get the rear end finished. I reinstalled the original rotors on the rebuilt trailering arms, checked them for runout, adjusted the new parking brake shoes, and installed the arms in the car.
I was able to get the runout to .003 on the right side, and .007 on the left. It's a bit more than spec, but I'd like to retain the original rotors if possible. https://i.imgur.com/ynwBoXRh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/z8guXXih.jpg I installed new toe shims for the rear arms, set up like it came apart. Everything is in there temporarily, so it's not such a job for the alignment shop when I bring it in. The parts missing are some washers that get installed with the rear camber adjustment bolts. I cannot install the links, nor the shock mounts and shocks until I have those. |
It's fairly straightforward to get those rotors next to perfect. I cut 1.5" square shims with a half inch hole in the center out of a beer can and stuffed them behind the rotor in the inboard areas. Got my originals to within .002 on both sides. Like yourself, I wanted to use the originals, having very little faith in the aftermarket. One of mine even had a groove in it, but I'm still more than happy to reuse that. Brakes turned out very good. ... oh, and loving the build updates.

Thanks for the props! |
Today I finished up the rear suspension assembly (my missing parts came in).

Yesterday I had a friend at my disposal, so we got the motor tossed in. I spend the rest of the day (quite leisurely I might add) installing the clutch, bellhousing, trans, shifter, driveshaft, carb, and fuel pump. I have a few obligations that will pull me away from this here and there, but I suspect this should be making noise by the end of the week.

Looks great, but I hope you didn't dispose of the friend when you were done with him/her...
You get much snow up there overnight/today ? I get to plow again today. |
