When Franklin D. Roosevelt became president, he aimed to end the economic depression. The problem? There wasn't enough gold in the Treasury to print more bills, increase spending, and stimulate the economy. In this pursuit, he banned citizens from owning gold (1933). Citizens were required to turn in their metals for $20.67 per troy ounce. Unfortunately, the plan did not seem to end the Great Depression, which lasted until 1939. |

How do you hang you toilet paper? Over or Under? There is a proper way: Over . . . at least that's the way the original toilet paper roll patent was approved (Dec. 22, 1891). |

When the public started using the phone back in the 1800s, inventor Alexander Graham Bell thought they should answer a call with “ahoy.” That’s likely why the incredibly elderly Mr. Burns on The Simpsons says “Ahoy-hoy” when he picks up the phone. However, Bell’s rival, Thomas Edison, wanted users to answer the phone with “Hello.” And, according to The New York Times, by 1880, ‘Hello’ had won out. |

They don't bark but they yodel/chortle and making murder victim screaming noises when they are left alone and bored. Had neighbors call the police several times for "domestics" at our house when we had one in Florida. Very ancient breed that goes back several thousand years, Can never be left off a leash outside, as they are extreme sight hounds and will bolt for any small critter movement a half mile away. Lots are lost to automobiles when they try to run across a road. |

Early this year, Chile's Atacama desert -- the driest desert in the world -- experienced an extremely rare rainfall, which resulted in flooding that left six people dead. Defined by their aridity, rainfalls are rare in deserts. Sometimes, however, uncommon meteorological circumstances line up perfectly, causing extreme flooding. |
