There are plenty more that are under construction such as Chad's and others. I don't think there will ever be a shortage of in progress cars. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Actually.........The Clips were correct but weren't Heat Treated and were dead soft ......they should have been Spring Tempered to work correctly.........Got more coming from a different supplier.......and I have my fingers crossed.........As usual a Simple thing became very Difficult.......Quality Control????

.......Quality Control????

Unfortunatly we (the consumer) are the only real forms of quality control when it comes to reproduction parts.I know I've harped on this many times before...It's all supply and demand...The sad part is..In most cases it does not effect the cost to make this crap the right way the first time around....Bad heat treating? I've worked in heat treating,if these are bad theres a few thousand that are bad as well.... their often treated a barrel at a time.Has anyone found a good repro part? Does it work without modifications right out of the box? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Ken, I hear your next project is a repro Camaro... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif

The skills that you guys have amazes me; you can take a car completely apart in your garage, and make it look like brand new. I am struggling to replace the interior on my 1969 Corvette without making it look like too much of a "hack job".
Car looks great; I always look forward to updates on this car amd Steve's Trans Am restoration.

All kidding aside Ken, it always amazes what the average Joe can produce out of their garage when they take their time to do it right. The first time I saw Ken's Nova I was blown away. We have seen it time and time again on this site. Even more amazing when some of the so called "Restoration shops" that are paid good money can't even come close to doing them as nice as Ken and many of the others who have posted on here.

Finally.........The Radiator showed up today....Great.....Install it, add coolant, and fire it up.........Right..................."Not".......... ..I'm glad this is almost over because I can't take much more of this Non-Sense..........O.K.......I install the Radiator......smooth.......installed in 10 minutes.....Go into the Basement to get the Hoses and clamps.......I found out that I had double ordered the hoses......(If I ever do another car, "EVERYTHING" will get checked Immediately)....Here is a picture of the hoses that were ordered for the same application.....

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05908.jpg

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05910.jpg

The shortest upper hose is about 4" too long and has to be cut on only one end, the other would need to be cut on both ends.......I'll cut to suit, But.....I ordered hoses to fit now after cutting the hose with a "Steak" knife, it's my problem if I screw it up.......Never looks as good as properly made hose.......Small thing....but....Also the lower hose has "No" spring in it to keep it from colapsing........Sheesh.....
Now , I open the Package with the Tower Clamps that was ordered as a "Radiator" set......Here's what was in the Pkg

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05911.jpg

2pcs 2 1/16" and 1pc 2 1/2".......Now the plans to start it will have to wait until "Hopefully" Friday.......If the Clamps show up........

Heres a pic of the Radiator installed......so close...

No your not.....perhaps if you call the troubled supplier your dealing with....and tell them that you need a gallon of "Blue" windshield washer fluid for that nice new bottle....they would probably screw that up too. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

IMO, I think what you're going through with these aftermarket "snafu's" is one of the reasons (if not the main reason) why legit. NOS parts command some of the prices we see...because they FIT.

Honest mistakes happen, that's to be expected...but when mistakes like these become the norm instead of the exception, then there's a serious problem.

Re: Biscayne Resto Project

When i ordered my upper radiator hose...I had to cout about 4 inches off of it to fit...too!

At least the lower has a spring inside it...though I saved the spring from the one I was taking out just in case...

Ken...the car is awesome. We can wait. Take 'er easy buddy. Let's let em have it at SEMA... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Here are a couple of shots of the glass I promised. My customer ordered a rear clear glass for his 70 LS-6 which instead was delivered to me tinted. I called the supplier and they had realized right away they swapped my order for another customer's. Since I had to have it I drove 3 hours to pick it up. Get home and the glass is not even close to the right shape. It was wrapped and I checked for tinting and stamping and never thought to look at the contour. Call up and they confirm that they had a bunch of the wrongly bent glass in stock and would ship me the correct piece. A week later it arrives and guess what, same sh!t only slightly better. My only question to them was why they had defective product sitting on their shelves instead of tossing it which is exactly what I did. Worst part is they cannot get the correct piece for 2 months! It is never ending these days with some of these suppliers and worst part is they did not seem to really care.

I have gone thru other cars in the past....and have had "Issues" with the Repro parts....But "Never" like this ........(Chinese "JUNK")......the Radiator I waited 3 months for was made in the U.S. and is a work of art.....worth the wait........But the other stuff ....

I'll say it again (Chinese "JUNK")

Re: Biscayne Resto Project

------Rick,,, When you say OEM I am guessing you mean "original equipment manufacturer", not OEM Inc. out of Bloomington IL. At least I hope this is the case. I talked with Dale at OEM a short time ago and he warned me that good repro glass would be coming to a halt in the future. I guess I didnt think his statements would appear to happen this quick. Problem as he described it is the intrusion of cheap, over-seas mis-made glass as you describe actually forcing the good manufacturers out of business. Making this old glass correctly for collector cars hasnt been a profit-making endeavor for the quality companies for a long time anyway, apparently. He told me then that a couple of manufacturers of quality vintage glass had already shut down production. I and probably you have seen the proliferation of really inexpensive glass sets available on E-bay and elsewhere. This is a very bad thing for all of us...........Bill S

Re: Biscayne Resto Project

Bill,
No this is OEM as in original equipment as seen by the remnents of the sealer around the edges. The repop glass is made in "Taiwan" of all places. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

I agree with you regarding the future of our reproduction parts. It is very sad and as I said before, I would not mind paying the price if I could just get a quality part.

Re: Biscayne Resto Project

Rick.......Is it possible that the glass was for a different body style (Hard top vs. Post).........I don't know anything about the Later Chevelles.....Just a thought..

Re: Biscayne Resto Project

Nope! Confirmed 1970 Chevelle 2 door coupe back glass. They also confirmed it to be defective as well as the rest of their inventory. From what I found out, this was not a new issue and this glass should have been put somewhere where it could not be resold.

Re: Biscayne Resto Project

Rick,
You probably already know it but make sure there is no eng paint and only bare metal where the lower radiator hose attaches. I didn't do that on one car, drove it to the pavillions, after five mins of sitting the lower hose blew off because of the slick paint. Made a big mess, burned my girlfriend, the only person out of the crowd standing around to get splashed. Very embarrasing with all the people standing around and I couldn't decide who to attend to the girlfriend or the car. Fortunately a bunch of car guys pitched in cleaning up the car and I attended the girl. Withing 2 secs a lawyer approached her to offer her his services in sueing me. Anyway I have a normal hose clamp on the bottom and a tower clamp on the topside now.

Re: Biscayne Resto Project

Just a little Update......I'm having Seat Covers made locally ....we sent out for Samples to match what we had and when the Samples came in they were Exactly what we were looking for.....So, the material was ordered (All Vinyl) and I was feeling prety Good.........Some little loose ends to tie up but nothing major.......Sent the wrong color Seat Covers along with a picture of the Mis-Matched colors back to the supplier and was given an Immediate Credit https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif.......That was pretty Cool as I thought I was going to have to eat the cost of those covers. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif.......
Anyhow, I get a call from the vendor saying that there wasn't enough of one of the Colored Vinyl Samples to finish the job and they were sending out some other samples and to choose from one of them....well another week go's by before they show up........Close but "NO Cigar"......so I having Vinyl Dye mixed so I can end up with what I want...the dye and material should be in the End of this week so the covers can be made next week and I can hopefully be in front of Cumby's house in two weeks.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Yes, most repro parts suck and I too get the "you're the first" on a complaint. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif sure I am...

One question on the radiator.. Nobody makes a repro "Big Tank" 4-core?

68Biscayne427 07-05-2007 10:04 PM

Re: Biscayne Resto Project

Well..... They make them, but the real question is do they fit... And do they look original?
It is still pretty easy to find an old radiator and just have them re-cored.
