Ryan,
There are some good lessons to be learned from his video......Number 1 - CBB in an Olds But she now goes like the wind https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yduuS6f3QSM Dan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
From what I have seen and read Legendary will be the interior supplier. I need carpet, a headliner, front seat covers, (not sure if I should also order the seat cover install kit with foam, etc. I assume so) and a few miscellaneous items.
The door panels look good except the drivers panel needs repaired due to a chunk missing from the upper section. Only missing one window winder, but Greg G threw in a vintage yellowed knob winder. Ryan |

Who will do your interior.....labor price?
Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I have a budget for that but don't know of any places locally...haven't started to research this yet.
Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
You will also need package tray, carpet underlayment, dash restoration.....have you looked at the under dash wiring harness? I assume it will be ok....but you never know with almost 50 year old wiring? You will also need to restore all the interior halo trim and bucket seat backs and lowers. Armrests and armrest pads. Don`t forget the seat belts and covers.

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I've been doing my seats myself for the '68 with Legendary covers, foam from them (it's really ACI brand), using an installation kit from www.seat-guy.com. Ben is an Olds guy (though he just sold his '66) and is great to work with.
Ames Performance makes the correct molded seat chrome for the edge of the seat plastic too. I got an order of some new screws, seat chrome trim, seat bumpers, and it added up to $240. Stuff came in and is nice, but it's always the tiny stuff that kills your budget. The good part is that '69-72 seat backs are all the same, not terribly hard to find (and interchangeable side to side)... you can restore with SEM landau black. |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I found the W-31 decals. pm me your address and I'll send them. They're probably only good as tool box decals at this point though due to being 46 years old.

So far Legendary looks like the interior vendor of choice:-) I am not a patient guy:-( Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I ordered some vinyl and cloth material along with a foam backed hedliner material for a '77 blazer I picked up. First I waited for the samples. Then tried to get someone on the phone to order. Then weeks go by and I called to say, send what you have. Weeks later again I am waiting for the headliner material to be foam backed and the "door panel" guy does that supposedly. I don't mind the wait if I knew in advance. Lack of communication is what fires up the nerves. legendary is usually good, just have to wait the normal 4-6 weeks on things they need to make up. Good luck.

THUS.....YOU WILL BE GOING RIGHT BACK TO.....SMS. WIth a POST SEDAN......ONLY SMS can only make certain interior parts. You need to have patients when building a car. Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Yes.....lots and lots of horror stories with SMS.
Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I will get the Legendary samples and check against the original interior and see if I can go with them.
Good call. Ryan PS: Is patience the same as stubbornness? If so we are good to go:-) |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Will do!!
Ryan I still have to compare the SMS samples to original yet. |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Well SMS samples are perfect:-)
I see why people put up with delays, lack of communication and poor customer service. Sign me up:-) Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5717-image.jpg Carpet looks the same, but I don't have any decent original carpet to really compare https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5718-image.jpg Headliner material is perfect https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5722-image.jpg Upper and lower door panel vinyl is perfect (I won't be buying door panels just fixing one damaged spot) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5724-image.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5725-image.jpg |

I need the right stuff. Keep it simple:-) Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
The things I love about SMS? Hmm, their upfront (note-pre purchase customer service)-fantastic. The fabric match-better than anything else out there. Their ability to charge your credit card immediately upon placing the order-second to none. That's it. Ryan, my fellow A Body enthusiast, good luck!
|
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Can't wait!!
Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Make sure the backing material for that fabric is the same as your original. I bought some of what I thought was the same material gtom SMS for my gramma's 75 Firebird and it turned out what they sold me was the material used for making welting - a non stretchable canvas-backed vinyl instead of the stretchable fabric backed material used in the rest of the seat material.

I will order a headliner (complete not just the material) do I need to worry? Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
No need to worry - What Steve is mentioning - also happened to me once....but this was a long time ago. I have had no problems since. They have resolved this problem.

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Got it.
Thx Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Something else to consider Ryan is the vinyl I received had been painted rather than dyed. My trimmer discovered this when he went to wipe off some excess glue from the vinyl and the paint went with it. Not sure if this is the case with everything?
|
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I will check on that Damien.
Thanks for the tip, I appreciate feedback. ROOKIE HERE!!! Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Turns out Paul Martin/Canuck is the nicest muscle car guy going!!
He sent me a 1969 Oldsmobile starter kit. Hose clamps, tubes (I don't know where they go but I really like them) front brake drums (non finned) a jack hook, and front turn signals. I think he wanted the 69 stuff out of the way for the seventies W-Machine build area:-) THANK YOU PAUL!!! Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Ryan, the tubes are for the valve cover breather to air filter, 1970 used them ,Not sure about 69, The drums are for the rear, and that style was used up until 1970 on many w machines.
Paul |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Perfect, looking forward to using them, on the rear (typed before thinking)
Ryan Thanks again!! |
