Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Sorry I forgot to add that Lesley was a friend of Carl Rowland and she would stop by the DD plant once and awhile.

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Al forwarded photos of two of the Drag Dimensions decals. He secured the permission to sell these designs from the sole surviving owner of the company. I have bought 6 of the small decals and 2 of the large (headers). From what I can tell the quality looks real good. Al said he may be making some T-shirts with these designs at some point. I like the looks of them - definitely a sign you don't see every day. Nice job Al!
Al may be pursuaded to sell DD paraphenalia on this site if there were some interest. I'll post pix of the decals on the Deuce when they come in. These photos show a protective mask over the design.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...k_yard_016.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...k_yard_015.jpg BTW, these are lower res photos displayed above vs. what Al sent to me. There are no jagged edges on the angled print of the decals in Al's hi res photos. |

Great Job Al!

Fellas (gals too), if you are looking for a not-often-seen performance decal I would recommend AL'S DECALS . I think the design would look terrific on a T-shirt too! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...e/DSC_0651.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...e/DSC_0648.jpg |

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Wow , those decals look cool on something other than my side window. . last time I actually saw a pair of those trac bars was a little over 30 years ago.
Stunning car , great story Sam thanks Al |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
The Drag-Dimension decals look really great on the Trac-bars!.
It's details like this that add up and make the Roof Deuce what it is, CL!!! I haven't compared them w/ the original on my toolbox yet but thanks for the new DD decals you laid on me Al!. Great to meet you in person too and I hope you enjoy the original Thrush hat!. On Curly's Fiat, I may be wrong but am pretty sure he told me once that the Drag-Dimension paintjob went on the car temporarily when he was in some sort of disagreement w/ the Karbelt sponsors so not necessarily previous to as noted above nor later either, maybe in-between?. Here's a couple more shots of the car, another in DD paint also check the bottom picture from Wheelspin as it shows the front weights that slid side to side and locked, one of the subtle details Curly would adjust to suit different tracks, conditions and feel.. I've never gotten to the bottom of the different roof cuts seen in any pictures over the years so there may've been more than one body used?. ~ Pete RIP Curly!. Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
I saw a pair of this type of traction bar at Carlisle last week, couldn't remember if they were the same as the Roof Deuce or not... they had a rubber stopper in that little cage thingy....

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Nope - wasn't sure if they were the same, I didn't see a provision for the rear sway bar attachment and I forgot how the Roof's version incorporated the bar. Still had the rubber thingy in them. Coulda, woulda, shoulda!!

Wayne B's request for Deuce stories for "Nova Times" gave me an excuse for taking some more snap shots. I found this tractor repair shop just a couple of miles from my home and thought it would make a rugged background to contrast with the luscious flanks of the Nova. The skies cooperated with some interesting clouds. Here are some outtakes from the photo shoot...

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Sam, those are some awsome shots! I don't know which photos I like the best. The desert, or these?? The Ansens and just a hint of the chrome exhaust tips looks sweet. Such a beautiful resto and car. I'm so glad that the car came from PA and was restored.

I asked them to address the yellowed face. They said that they could not access the inside face because of the Dixco assembly process where the lense was glued to the Yenko Crest bezel. Well Joe worked his magic when the hood tach came back to Donahue and the results are below. Mighty impressive Joe !! They changed the complete inner mechanic with a very later dated unit ~1977. You can see the difference in the lighting. Your lighting is placed in front behind the black Yenko bezel. Original the lighting is in the case behind the 8000 RPM display with a large bulb. Early Yenko Dixco’s had 4 cables: White, Black, Green and Red Later produced Dixco’s with the lighting in front comes just with tree cables: Black, Green and Red. Second thing: The adjusting knob looks like a later dated, also in mid-70th years. About me, the restoring company made just a swap in your tach. They kept the rare original Yenko unit. Probably the Yenko Bezel is also a reprint, it looks like one. Pat |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Pat
I know they changed the insides as that is what they told me they did. It has three wire leads now. Adjustment knob looks ok to me But I am no expert. Sounds like you have some insight on this detail. I am confident that the face is original. If you go back in my thread you will see the original face with the embossed "YENKO" emblem on it which are no longer made. This face is what was returned from the tach repair facility and is on the car now. |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Here is the original face plate mentioned above that is on the car now.

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Hi Sam
I never saw a Yenko face plate with embossed Yenko logo. It looks like a sticker over painted in black. I don’t want say it’s not original. It’s just new for me. Have you a survivor picture from such face plate? Thanks Pat |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
The picture you posted above is a survivor. If you need another i'm sure my dad can get you one of his.

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Hey Swiss, it appears you know a lot about these tachs. That's cool. You know how to fix them? Nobody out there is doing a great job. We've been hoping that somebody could get them right, but it's not happened yet.
If you can, I got one to send you, and I expect a lot of others will too. Do you have a deuce? Maybe you could share some pics. None of us will live long enough to know it all. |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Me, and a friend restore this Hood Tachs here in Switzerland to perfect condition.
In this case, we have all the knowledge to fix them. Nobody is reproducing hood tach parts; it’s a hard way to find them. Some time, we need up to tree old tachs to build a perfect one. I’m a collector of NOS Hood tachs and old literature; I’m still searching for some special hood tach editions, like a 10’000 RPM Balkamp. Here a picture from my friend’s collection: http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/4048/collectionp.jpg No I don’t own a deuce, sorry, only a real AAR Cuda and a Challenger TA. Show me please your tach by PM. Pat |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
I will bet those tachs run like Swiss Watches! (Sorry couldn't resist).
Seriously though, your work looks beautiful and I'm sure functions just as well. Glad to have you on the forum. |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
This Deuce is literally off the friggin charts cool.....I'm not kiddin. Sam the extra work you put into this car is so amazing that words cannot barely describe it.
I am totally convinced that the members of this site have collectively the best cars in the hobby. |

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Swiss, the above pic is the same as mine. I'm an original deuce owner. Many of us have looked for someone to fix these tachs as they do go bad for some reason. I don't know what makes them work, but would think that what was available 40+ years ago could be fixed with either the same parts, or something a little better while retaining as much originallity as possible.
If you believe that you can repair these deuce tachs and keep them as original as possible, post your mailing address. I believe you will have some business. And hey, the T/A Mopars are cool, just not as fast as deuces. (big smile) |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Hi folks
Many thanks for all your feedbacks. Yes, our tachs are working like Swiss Watches. If somebody wants a perfect Hood Tachometer restoration, please send full picture documentation. Also from the inside to: dixco@gmx.ch We will let you know, how big is the parts search and restoration work. In other words, we give you our opinion, if a restoration is practicable or not. Here a picture from a full restored ultra-rare Dixco HT/x – 977 from 1972. http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/5638/006cyxg.jpg http://img864.imageshack.us/img864/2807/htx977.jpg Thanks Pat PS: I agree, nothing is faster than a Deuce. Have fun!!! |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
I didn't get any pics. They were all forbidden/removed. Need to get them in an e mail file somehow so I can run it off on my copier.
