The Northstar V8 engine was one of the main reasons to choose a Cadillac in the 1990s and 2000s, so having two of them should offer twice the appeal. That was the thinking behind Twinstar from Florida company Mosler, which as the name suggests packs a pair of these smooth 304hp motors.

Using a 2000 Cadillac Eldorado coupe as the base, it retains its normal front engine but adds a second engine in the car’s trunk. With over 600hp from the two motors, Mosler claimed 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and a 207mph top speed, though it would be a brave driver who took this luxury coupe to its maximum to find out. It’s thought five were made and today you’ll pay from around $40,000 if you stumble across one in good condition.

Jeep wowed and delighted the Detroit crowds at the 2005 North American International Auto Show with the Hurricane concept. This was a Wrangler on weapons-grade steroids and boasted a pair of 5.7-liter Hemi V8s putting out a joint 679hp. Even with monster 20-inch off-road tires, the Hurricane was claimed to cover 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds.

As well as two engines, all-wheel drive and just two seats, the Hurricane came with a four-wheel steering system to help it negotiate tight spots on rugged ground. It could even drive sideways, while the aluminum spine and carbonfiber bodywork made it reasonably light at 3841 lb.
