Is that a mini spool. My 300 has got a GM 456 ring and pinion in it with what looks like the same posi. Mine has two Capital L's engraved in it. I thought it was a mini spool </div></div> Mike, I don't know what it would be called as I've never seen one. |

Maybe a Powertrax lock rite?

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
That's a mini spool. Try turning the axles independent of each other.

Ok, good to know what it is, thanks to you and Mike. When I first bought the car, and we were pushing it around to get on the trailer, I noticed that there was no differential action. Very hard to push when going around corners, so I figured there was some sort of locker in it. I was just glad it wasn't a set of welded spiders, as the rest of the car was put together fairly hastily. |

Yeah, I would not use this spool as I'm having the 4.10 and an original posi put back in. Anybody want to buy the spool? |

What Dan doesn't tell is that he came by to get my seat frames to bring to his upholsterer for recovering/rebuilding.
He nearly insisted I use this guy as he's done many sets of the 300 Deluxe seats with the stripes in the material, and making the seat covers and getting everything in proper alignment is what this guy is good at. Thanks Dan!!!!!!!!! |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Rick,
The pleasure is all mine......THIS CHevelle has lived a hard life and you are resurrecting her in a way that most car guys can only wish and dream of doing. I am only contributing a small portion to help you see your dream come true. YOUR INTERIOR WILL BE STUNNING. I have always said a 1969 300 Deluxe interior is one of the Best looking interiors that GM made. Yes, my interior guy has done Dozens of 300 Deluxe seats for many of my registered 300 Deluxe Owners ...he has it down to a science. Dan |

Rick, beautiful restoration!!
it amazes me how bad the rust was on a low mile car dang it |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Thanks Sal and Richard
I appreciate the positive responses! Fenders will be painted tomorrow, then wet-sanded and buffed a few days after that, so I'll have a few more pics to post soon. I'm pretty sure this poor car just sat outside all these years before I bought it. We can be pretty sure which side was facing the sun by the rubber around the vent windows being hardened on one side and not the other, and also more rot on the shady side as it probably stayed wet for longer. |

Fenders and doors, as well as header panel and front valance are done.
May get the frame assembly going this week, but some powder-coated parts are still at their shop. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscf7759.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscf7760.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscf7761.jpg |

Powered by what was a 1000 HP Blown big block, but was detuned to around 750. |

Dupont PPG paint, not sure on the brand of clear coat. Spies-Hecker primer under that, and DP90 under that, and LOT'S (hours and hours)of sanding between coats of primer. Literally made our fingers bleed at least once. Kind of like the 1 line in the Bryan Adams song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9f06QZCVUHg |

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Things have been progressing slowly, but I should have the rear end done and ready to install by next week.
I had to have a guy at Chassis Service turn the driver side axle tube back into position, as apparently the plug weld broke loose on that side. We then had them install a new Eaton 4-series posi and a new 4.10 ring and pinion, as well as all new bearings, etc. Nothing much to see far as pictures go on that. I also had to straighten and body work the original disc brake backing plates, then Kevin over at Nostalgic gave me a duplication of galvanizing like they looked in `69. The floor plug is original galvanizing for comparison. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscf7797.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscf7798.jpg |
