Jeffrey - your '71 Z looks great. The day-two concours judging at MCACN is for restored cars with period correct day-two speed parts. But, your car would be a BIG hit at MCACN just as it is. What a stance! Check with Bob Ashton the big Kahuna with MCACN for details. |

On the spec page for the HMM article I used Pete Simpson's most recent results (Pure Stock) at the race track for the quarter-mile performance.

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Are those header mufflers.they are cool...but watch you're angle ground clearance.......almost damaged my headers on the street..and had to make some adjustments...
|
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Appreciate it Joe. Those are Cherry Bombs (Roof's originals). That is the angle that the headers (Cyclones) gave me. I hang them off the front rear-spring perch. The pipes exit the car about 6 to 8 inches off of the deck. Railroad crossing jumps will have to be done a bit gingerly!!

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
I went to the Hemmings site, found the phone number, and gave them a call. You can order as many copies as you want and don't have to buy a subscription if you don't want to. Took 3 days for them to get here. Just be sure to be really specific about which mag and which month you're ordering. The lady on the phone kept trying to send me Hemmings Classic Car.

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Thanks guys! x-baldwin has me covered. I really like the coverage on this car and I hope to see it in person one day. But the site and magazines will have to do for now.

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Keeping with the day-two theme, a couple guys asked about how I mounted the Mallory coil. I didn't want to drill any holes in the firewall so I used some existing holes for the wire gutter to attach this coil (and resistor).
<span style="font-size: 20pt"><span style="color: #3333FF">Started with a cardboard template to make sure I had a decent design and fit (would recommend taking own measurements as they may vary from car to car) .... </span></span> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...DSC_0005-3.jpg <span style="font-size: 20pt"> <span style="color: #3333FF">...then had my talented friends at the fab shop make my mount (18 ga steel - I think)... </span></span> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...DSC_0007-1.jpg <span style="font-size: 20pt"><span style="color: #3333FF">...dry run for fit. One of the challenges was keeping the TCS relay switch in the stock position and accomodating it behind the coil, so I designed the mount so the coil would be about an inch off of the firewall. Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Back in the 70's when I bought the coil for my Mallory dual point, Super Shops store told me to mount it at an angle so the "Mallory" name was level. This was to keep to oil inside the coil from uncovering the internal contacts during cornering. Anyone ever hear of this?

Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Greg - that is a real nice set up you had there under your hood.
Never heard that one before. Suppose that logic of <span style="font-style: italic">"at an angle so the "Mallory" name was level"</span> would work if you spent a lot of time on surpentine roads or a circle track. |
Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
Mystery solved. I got a pm from Al Corporon (AlsV8vair) today, saying he thought he knew who manufactured my Nova's traction bars. He then forwarded a catalog page (looks to be a '71 version) and photo from <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Drag Dimensions Limited </span></span>of Downsview Canada. The catalog scan has a detailed blow up of the adjustable snubber. The Roofs remembered the bars were white and I'd say Schonye & co. nailed the original product look. The bars were put on the Deuce just after they bought the car in 1970.
Thanks Al - that sure made my day! Re: Roof Deuce Restoration
I was thinking that too. I'm thinkin they need to go back on. (big smile)
I had not seen slapper bars like those on Sam's car before. They really are a pretty unique piece in that you can leave that factory sway bar on, and you can adjust the snubber height with those slotted openings. If I'd have known about them back in the day, I probably would have put a set on. Restoring them was a best guess situation. Looks like we may have guessed pretty close. |

Schone those bars on Sam's car are killer and dead on IMO. Not sure they worked as good as the Lakewoods with more of the slapper type action but really unique. Love em!
