Towing a disabled F-104A Starfighter back to Hamilton AFB along Highway 101 north of San Francisco. Engine failed on check flight and pilot dead-sticked the 104 into Santa Rosa airport 10 miles north of the base. Wings had to be removed for the tow, 1959:

My best friend growing up--his parents owned one of the first '55 T-birds, bought new at Cortese Ford in Richmond, CA. He couldn't remember why the headlight rings were chrome but he said it came that way.

The Cooper River Bridge shot is cool too but they opened up a new Bridge 2-3 years ago that is also pretty amazing. That old bridge was steep, narrow and gave you a full case of white knuckles if you pushed crossing it too hard, let alone trying to pass someone after mustering up too much liquid courage at some of the local watering holes.

My parents met in Charleston while still in the Navy after the war. They loved the town and as a kid many summer vacations were spent there. That bridge scared the crap out of me every time we went over it.(I don't think my Dad was thrilled with it either.)

Cool shots Bill - I see the Dodge/Chrysler? in the drive - what's that big thing lurking in the garage?

That's the home's original owner in the driveway in the trunk of his '52 Chrysler and my parents bought the house from him and his wife in 1968. Car in the garage is a '58 Dodge wagon. In the garage and next-door there's a 56-ish Studebaker Hawk. When we lived there the next-door neighbor built a VW dune buggy in his garage and it was metal-flake green. He used a beater late-50s bug for the donor and I would watch him as he made the swap. I even remember going for a ride when it was finished in 1969.
