Back at it again.

To wrap up the last update, may I present one drivers side fender ready for final prep.

Bodyguy called today to let me know the windshield channel filler was out and ready for me to photograph. We arrived just as he was pulling the steering column for a little additional working room.

As was noted during the last visit, there was some rust at the DS corner of the dash, but all things considered, this will be an easy repair.

It's so encouraging to see how thorough Bodyguy is when it comes to making sure everything is right. Since he was already this far into the job, he went ahead and pulled the dash chassis all the way out so it can be fully repaired and prepped.

Upon initial fitting, the replacement panel *appears to* fit pretty well.

I'll be calling the glass guy tomorrow to get a new windshield delivered to the shop so the filler panel fit can be verified before they start welding things back in place. Bodyguy says he has 1 1/2 days worth of cleaning to do before anything can start going back into place anyways, so things should time out OK.

I asked Bodyguy where he got this unit, and he told me he bought it off the Mac Tools truck back in the mid `80's. He doesn't know if this particular make/model is still being made, but here's the company info tag on the unit--maybe they're still around?

Thanks for the Info on the car caddie but I guess they went out of business a long time ago. Number no longer in service. I cant find any current info on that contraption. Bummer!

Moving right along...

Glassguy was on site to drop off the new windshield when we arrived today. (he'd tried to deliver it Thursday but he got there after hours)

Glassguy and Bodyguy go way back but hadn't seen each other in a while so it was old home week for a little while after we arrived. [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif[/img]

Bodyguy was hard at work this week getting the replacement cowl filler panel and cowl panel ready to install. Turns out the cowl filler panel needed to be cut and widened a little bit to make it perfect, but that's obviously a re-occurring theme with this project.

The filler was sectioned down the center lengthwise and a filler strip of material was added and everything was welded back together. A little finish work and it will be ready to weld in place.

Bodyguy was in the process of cleaning &amp; prepping the inner cowl for repairs today when Glassguy arrived.

The rust holes will be addressed shortly.

Back-tracking just for a moment to wrap up some previous updates: Two quick shots of how the DS body lines are coming in. Still a little ways to go, but a <span style="font-style: italic">vast</span> improvement over what we started with!

Bodyguy swung by the paint store and picked up a quart of color to verify it was what I wanted, and he said his paint guy was familiar with the difference between the `67 and `68+ color differences and made sure he mixed the correct `67 shade.

As far as the cast of characters;

Bodyguy #1 is a longtime friend of Bodyguy #2, and Bodyguy #2 is an older brother of one of my longtime friends. Bodyguy #2 also owns the killer green Challenger posted earlier in the thread. He and #1 did the restoration on it.

Just to break up the monotony of this thread a little bit;

My friend (mentioned above) and I built this Pro Street `67 Chevy II a while back; he did all the bodywork (natch) while I helped with the drivetrain and some of the fab work. His brother (mentioned above) squirted the color on it.

(don't ask me why he painted the engine yellow, I tried to talk him out of it lol)

Fully hand-built chassis/frame: 2X3 front rails with a Pinto cradle and rack&amp;pinion steering system, 2X4 rear rails with Alston ladder bars and coil-overs. The engine was a .060&quot; over 10-1 427: ported open chamber oval ports, Crane flat tappet cam, Weiand Team G intake, 1050 9375 Holley (prepped by yours truly), hand fabbed stainless 2 1/4&quot; headers (<span style="font-style: italic">way</span> too big for this engine, but a much larger engine was being planned for the car later and the notion of building 2 sets of headers wasn't too appealing), 400 turbo with a Coan 4000 converter, 9&quot; Ford with a locker and a 4.57 screw.

Friend sold the car shortly after its completion (suffering from a <span style="font-style: italic">severe</span> case of project burn-out), went somewhere up to northern Ohio, then wound up in Florida where it was being listed for sale again on eBay.

No idea where it is now...kind'a miss that car.

Eric your 67 Is looking good. It brings back a lot of memories of the 67 Conv I did a couple years back. The color is very nice also. [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif[/img]
