Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe

We have lift off!!

Terry picked up my frame and rear end housing, and followed me to the media blaster. I pre-loaded my car with all the loose parts. This trip went off without a hitch, and the blaster is at a Mennonite farm, in my experience this is a good thing!!

Terry has been mentioning that he thinks my car has two different rim widths, but I was sure it doesn't...... He found a Kelsey Hayes sticker inside one of the two black rims and we checked them against the green rims and turns out the offset is different:-) these rims are 14 X 6 but "wide track" I will post pictures latter.

I am so excited to have made it to this critical step!!! So excited I called Al Stager to chat about his old car!
He was very happy to hear about the progress and explained how the frames were made new and painted new, as he was a Tool Maker at Bud in Kitchener where these frames were made new back in the day:-)

Al also mentioned that the original engine failed after a few years of use, not in the first year as I understood before.

I invited Al over as soon as I have shiny parts to show off, and we will go look over the body etc at the same time.

I am one very happy guy today!!

Ryan

Thanks again Terry, i really appreciate your help, but 100 times more value making a new friend!! Funny how the Internet is good to find people all over the world with similar interests and also 2 miles away:-)

I think I have those same pictures! Actually, several sets of them! Way to go Ryan, please make sure everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) is tagged and bagged. I learned many years ago, that when boxing stuff, to write on the box, (or tape a list of the contents) what is inside that box. It'll save time when reassembling the puzzle. Looks like the project is progressing nicely. Keep up the good work! Remember.......don't discard ANYTHING at ANYTIME until you are 110% finished!!!

Great point about bagging and tagging, these need to be loose so they can blast them.

I have a box of items I should throw away but have specific instructions not to!!
This has already been useful several times to compare new black body bushings to the originals (some are teal)
Also I found the caged body mount nut in this box, the one I need to repair and weld back into the support brace beside the gas tank.

I have more parts on order so I have a new shelf to store these (notes on the boxes)

Thanks for the comments, I am learning this stuff as I go!!
