Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Great Muscle Car night!!!
Stephen J Minore called so we could talk engine build, he has offered to help in any way he can!! Thanks so much!! We talked short term, longer term, street vs drag, we talked about all the process's involved. He had a great explanation of car stuff, that you have for example a hundred tasks relating to one system of the car such as an engine, and you can sub them out but you would miss the fun of all hundred items. (This is how I feel about the engine, I want in on the fun!!!) I am not sure I articulated that sufficiently but the message is that the fun is in the journey!!! Great chat!!! Thanks again Steve!! Also: My parents stopped at Patton Glades to pick up my gas tank pad:-) Turns out he lives in Texas so Mom and Dad really went out of their way to buy me car parts:-) (kidding) I have to say car guys going above and beyond to help me is feeling more the norm these days, and Patton is no exception, he send me screws for the trim below my windshield and the clip for the gas tank wire above the tank that normally gets ruined during tank removal. How nice is that? Going to bed with a good feeling about humanity tonight!!! (Not joking) Ryan |

Cool stuff Ryan and amazing all that's happened in 12 months as next week will be one year since you first learned your W31 Post car even existed. Again nice to see your family involved w/ your project also I'm still hoping to swing by the igloo on one of my trips to Woodstock, just too much happening the last few times I went. Looking forward to your progress through year two! ~ Pete |

Why did you not press out your u-joints yet? I thought you had the use of a press? Duct tape your Spindle`s well before taking them to blaster.
Looking good.....a very nice pile of parts Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I just learned how to remove the U-joints, there are tiny holes on the sides of each yoke beside each cap with small blue plastic "pins" that need to be melted out. I have only seen u-joints with circlips'
Olds guys say I need to melt these out while being careful not to get the molten splatter on myself or others, and that the replacements will somehow use circlips..... I have to see it to really understand it. I hope to do that this Saturday. I had really slowed myself down trying to get every part powdercoated in one shot, so I narrowed my focus (leaving some items like alternator beaker, and pulleys for a future batch) and now have the pictures for the powdercoated so he can quote. (Got stuck) Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
PS: the powder coater said to let them mast the parts with high heat tape, so I will use a grease marker to highlight all the areas needing to be preserved such as the spindles, and the bushing area on control arms, etc.
I think you are meaning before sandblast and that makes sense we didn't talk about that. Point dully noted:-) Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Are you having everything powdercoated black or different colors?
