It doesn't look like much but it is . . . the farthest object ever photographed by a man made space explorer called New Horizons. Nicknamed "Ultima Thule" the object which resides in the Kuiper Belt is 4 BILLION miles from our sun.

What a dichotomy! Here I sit at my desk looking at this photo of the Bahamas on my monitor and glancing up over the monitor, looking out my window, I see 3 inches of snow! It has been VERY cold in in ABQ, NM - below 20 for the last 3 days. Haven't seen the sun since last week. How depressing.

Firefighters use wetting agents to make water wetter. The chemicals reduce the surface tension of plain water so it’s easier to spread and soak into objects, which is why it’s known as 'wet water.'

There were active volcanoes on the moon when dinosaurs were alive. Most of the volcanoes probably stopped one billion years ago, but new NASA findings suggest there might still have been active lava flow 100 million years ago, when dinosaurs were still roaming.

A cattle rancher in New Jersey is credited for inventing glitter, and it was by accident. Henry Ruschmann from Bernardsville, New Jersey was a machinist who crushed plastic while trying to find a way to dispose of it and thus made glitter in 1934.

To the everyday eye under normal conditions, ripe bananas appear yellow due to organic pigments called carotenoids. When bananas ripen, chlorophyll begins to break down. This pigment is the element that makes bananas glow, or 'fluoresce,' under UV lights and appear blue.

Silly Putty, the weird bouncy rubbery thing that became a bestselling toy in the second half of the 20th century, has some weird physical properties. It's a non-Newtonian fluid, which means it sometimes acts like a liquid and sometimes like a solid.

Some YouTube experimenters showed exactly what that means, dropping 50 pounds of Silly Putty from the top of a parking garage. Instead of bouncing back up, it shatters like glass and makes a crashing noise.

The US Air Force lost a nuclear bomb somewhere off the coast of Georgia.

No one knows where it is! An Air Force pilot dropped the bomb into the water outside of Savannah, Georgia, after colliding with another plane in 1958 during a training mission.

The US Navy searched for the bomb for months, but never found it.

Stone Crab Claws are a delicacy most associated with South Florida. The crabs are trapped, then their claws are removed and the crabs put back in the water for the claws to regenerate. Because they spoil so quickly, the claws are cooked dockside then cooled and sold to resturants, food stores, etc.

In 2017, Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona released a list of the most outlandish tax splurges he could find. One involved the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego, which used a $560,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to force fish to exercise to exhaustion on treadmills as part of a 2009 study.

The scientists chose mudskippers because of their unique ability to use their fins like legs for extended periods of time when out of the water. The exhausted fish were then given 48 hours to rest before hitting the gym again. Different oxygen levels were used as variables to test their progress and recovery.

But I don't live in Michigan! I live in New Mexico . . . the land of Enchantment. Let me look that up . . .

Enchantment: a feeling of great pleasure; delight. the state of being under a spell; magic.

Well that surely doesn't apply! At least not this past week.

OK . . . the sun finally came out today but it's only 28 degrees! It was 9 degrees this morning. THAT'S COLD!

Eh, The Simpsons has it's moments, although I haven't watched an episode in probably 10 years. The Flaming Moe episode is the best one I've ever seen, beginning to end.
