Here you go Mike......Nothing fancy.......But.....It's variable speed....the normal 4 1/2" grinders run at 10-11,000 RPM.....Using the 3 1/2" wire brushes works out verty well....but, without the variable speed, the grinder runs way too fast and the centrifical force just flattens the brush out and throws the wires right out of the wheel...So....this worked out perfectly....and it's small enough to get into most of those tight spots.... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05601.jpg Ken |

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
Well......Now we can get started for "Real"!.......I originally was going to clean the bottom of all the old undercoating......But....After trying to get that stuff off I could see that I was in a losing battle, and I figured that since it had been there for 45 years and since I was building a "Driver"......It would stay!!.......I power washed everything under the car to get all the dirt off......I got the front of the car cleaned and wire brushed......and Painted today......

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
I also got the Fuel tank assembled and tested for the last time.....It will be going in tomorrow.....I built some angle spacers to give some clearance for the pump assy and lengthened the tank straps accordingly......
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05604.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05608.jpg Dakota digital tail Light assy's also showed up.....neat stuff!! http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05605.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05606.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05609.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05610.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05611.jpg Tail Light.......... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05612.jpg Brake Light.......... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05613.jpg |

Ken
Nice job on the New York Cream Puff I like the variable speed "Gringer" I will have grab one, I am tired of picking wire out of my shirts and pants, I'll save the old Milwalkee grinder for my weld Blobs |
Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
Kenny...good idea not removing the undercoating...that's what is holding this Nu-Yawk jewel together
I would get a couple more cans and add another layer just to be safe wilma |
Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
Ken,
Are you wiring the turn signals 'sequentially'? And BTW, I agree with Mike on the grinder. I see one of those in my 'shopping cart' soon. Gettin' damned tired of picking wires out of shirts, pants, gloves, chin, cheek, arm, .......... |

</div></div> Nope!!....Gonna wire them normal........As far as the grinder go's.......I have about 5 hours on that wire brush operating at normal speed....with the other grinder that brush would have lasted about 15 minutes before self destructing...... |
Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
Well!!!......Here's how I started the day out today......I figured I would have an easy day today and just get the new brake lines in.......That took aboiut 10 minutes....So...I decided to keep going.....
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05591.jpg Got sick of tripping over the new 12 bolt.......Might as well move it out of the way..... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05595.jpg Pulled the Nova out and dragged the rear end to the backside of the lift......Lower the lift and lifted it on to the lift enough so it wouldn't fall off.....raised the lift and got out the transmission jack to take the weight so I could get it in position.... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05616.jpg Got a flow going.....got out all the new Ridetech suspension and here we go!! http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05620.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05623.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05627.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05636.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05640.jpg 6 hours later........ Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
Got the rear suspension and rear brakes finished up today.....Having way too much fun now!!!....I was going to start on the front suspension but after reading the Instructions I realized I needed to bring some clamps home from the shop to do it correctly.......Early day today.......Time for a Nap!!

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
Ken,
You are making great progress and I am enjoying the build. Nicely done! Elon |
Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
137 days till Power Tour!!!!..................Unlike the 37 Ford build, I might even get to get a few miles on it before leaving......LOL
For the new people here.......Here ia a link to that build........Warning.....will take a few minutes out of your day.....LOL http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversion...2-install.html |
Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
This convert is gonna surprise a lot of people. I remember when I first saw the '66 Chevelle. The longer you looked, the more you smiled. Nothing "In-Your-Face", but a TON of subtle things that made it a fantastic, reliable, FUN-TO-DRIVE car!
Impressive design & execution Ken! |

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
This is the best part of the build.
INSTALLING ALL THE NEW PARTS! |
Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
Started the Front Suspension today.....Got the front sway mounted and installed....and some mod's for the strut rods....mocked everything up with the coilover in place....I noticed a little clearance issue between the Coilover and the upper frame spring pocket.....Humm!!.......Get the Instructions out.....sure enough.....they said to check and modify if required.....So.........Time for a Nap......I'll do it tomorrow....
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05653.jpg Ridetech Spherical Strut Rod Bearing.....Replaces the stock rubber bushings http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05656.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05658.jpg |
Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
WOW looking great Ken. I love looking at your stuff, nice work. *Paul
|
Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
First off..........I wanted to add the second upper control arm on the rear axle assy....So.....I bought the second arm from Ridetech.......I thought there would have been a frame bracket included with the second Bar........So...I had the arm but nothing to mount it to......I copied the original and made my own....
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05664.jpg Got it and the second arm installed tonight.....another thing crossed off the list.... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05665.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05666.jpg I also had to put some additional clearance in for the Coilover shocks.........Buzzed it right out.... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05667.jpg Got 1 side roughed in....... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05668.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05669.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05670.jpg |
Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
Got a little ahead of myself today.....wanted to get the front brakes on.....I forgot to get the factory steering arms cleaned and prepped.........Tomorrow.....Got the master cylinder mounted, need to make a line or two and get some bushings......
I also got the new "Quick Steer" power steering box installed Also......I ordered almost all the parts to finish the car.....got a call from the UPS depot scheduling a time for drop-off tomorrow......said the driver is gonna need some help unloading...........LOL.......She's gonna be pissed when that credit card bill shows up......LOL.......I ain't afraid of her...... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05671.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05672.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05673.jpg |

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
Got the front suspension almost finished today.....Seems the people at CPP didn't notice the stickers on the Wilwood Calipers that said the brake line inlet were tapped 7/16-20 for a Banjo type fitting.....they sent tapered pipe fittings.......also.....I finally found something that is way beyond my skill level and capabilities.......Trying to get those Chinese front spindle dust caps to go on....I destroyed them trying to get them in..........Gonna dig thru the parts and find the old ones........not the first time i've had those issues.....LOL........Here are some pic's
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05674.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05676.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05678.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05680.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05681.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05685.jpg "And"..........Here's what the Nova looked like when I pulled it back in the Garage.....Probably the first time it ever had Snow on it...... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...t/DSC05686.jpg |
