I ran across this thread and thought I would share my memories. In the mid 70's (74-75) I lived next door to the local Chevy dealer (Larry Fannin Chevrolet) and would watch the used cars coming through. I remember a 69 Malibu (dark green, no vinyl roof)coming through that had been sold new by WWW Chevrolet in Ezel,Ky. . My friend Gary and I thought it was starnge to see an original car like this with a SS hood. Upon getting the owner (Dee Fannin) to open the car and let us check it out it was a factory 427 Malibu. Yours is the only other one of these I have heard of. It had carpeted floors a 4 speed (white ball) with a Hurst shifter and a bench seat (green fabric) and no tach. The owner stated that it was a 1 owner car and original . Just thought I would chime in .Congradulations on finding your car

Weather forecast for last Friday (Jan 20th) too good to pass up so I took a VC day.
By 8:30AM, the Chevelle up on blocks in my driveway . . .
Me on my back beneath pulling the TH400 installed in 2010 . . .
By mid afternoon, fresh rebuilt TH400 CX in, buttoned up and fluid going in.

Took a spin late afternoon through digital radar traps nearby, odometer dead on . . .
Throttle response :biggthumpup: Oh yeah, just like 40+ years ago . . . :beers:
Local policeman gave me a :grin: and thumbs up as I passed by . . .

Nice weather in TX still holding out . . .
Under the car Monday evening to remove the drive shaft . . .
Just a bit of rotational wobble and a slight vibration . . .

Had it 'trued' (straightened) and balanced at a local shop . . .
Spins smooth now and not a hint of wobble . . .
Anxious to take it out for a spin . . .
Maybe this weekend :grin:

Nice new solid shifting trans and now, no signs of a shake or shimmy in the drivetrain. Glad to hear you found what was causing that.

Rainy day here and I just read through this entire thread. What a great story! I cannot imagine driving past a dealership in 1969, seeing this car and then realizing it was a 427 car--and then closing the deal that same morning! I would have vapor-locked the day I located the car after all these years and hoping to close the deal before something or someone scuttled it. Love the '67 427 Impala V emblems on the fenders.

The fender flags from Harrell's shop always caught the "other guys" off guard . . .
When questioned, "Just a V8" was my pat answer . . .

We have met some really GREAT people via this and other threads since Dec 2008 . . . :grin:
Weekend before last, we met a few more at the local Goodguys event . . .
Turned out to be a very memorable weekend for Karen and me :beers:
