There was a discussion on another thread about the lift brackets being painted orange or bare steel. These are bare steel. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/385222-tn_019.JPG

Charley
Phil "Woj" has a sweet 69 Camaro survior, this summer he showed Grady an Me the same little paper gizmo. It was also on the intake manifold. It was pushed down on one of the bolts I think https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif. We could only guess what they might be.
If phil does not chime in here, I will make sure he see's your photo's.

Great car for historical purposes! My L78 is an 01C car and has that same early rear view mirror mount. It sucks for trying to hold the mirror in place, but that looks correct. I ended up mounting a 69 style mirror from the ceiling for safety reasons and it didn't hurt the headliner at all so I'm happy for now. The stock 2 piece mount will start to banana over time and won't hold in place. The early 70 cars had that mount before they changed to the later style that lasted through most of the 2nd gens. I would leave that mount alone for now.

That is the correct '70 only mount. Do you have the mirror and adjuster bracket for it? Once in a while they pop up on Pee bay. Keep looking and you will come across one

seems like there was a question on which way was/is up ... still unanswered unless the assembly manual shows ...

my July 70 Van Nuys Z28 HAD that style mirror until I chucked it in the 70's or early 80's for one that stayed in place ...

I've seen leather protective caps like this used on electrical sending unit contacts, connections & junctions to protect them from shorting out.Based on where you found it,I'm guessing maybe it came from something electrical on the firewall,an engine compt.light,or even the idle solenoid pot below.
